Where can I catch some crappie?

Well I hope that they do good we need some different types of fish in some of our waters I think.

Sorry…

IMHO – The perch, brown trout, walleye, crappie and bass will all take care of the chubs just fine. Even if the largest chubs are safe, the new chub fry will have an uphill battle staying away from the countless predators they will face every day. The chubs in starvation were already struggling big time with all of the predators noted above (except for perch), and when the perch showed up the UDWR threw their hands up in the air knowing it was hopeless to try to save the chubs.

Since Idaho crappie fishing was brought up, there is always combining it with a sturgeon trip to C J Strike. Like we found out that first year, theres a good population of big crappie in C J. The problem is dragging yourself away from the main attraction, if you know what I mean.

Thanks Curt I will give some thought to that.

Generally, perch will out-compete chubs when in the same lake. Examples of this are Fish Lake, Rockport, Echo and the “old” Deer Creek (before the perch themselves crashed) Additionally, smallies are very efficient predators of chubs. The best example of this is Flaming Gorge, where there used to be an excess of chubs but not any more, they are rare. I doubt chubs are ever going to be a problem at the X. I know I am in a minority on this but I also don’t view the small perch as a problem. They are a main grocery item for the big smallies that so many of us here love to chase. When the perch numbers eventually go down, (and they will as the woody structure breaks down and the walleyes increase.) the smallies will not be as spectacularly fat like they are presently. My 2 cents.

Fishfearme I think you need to get your fakes strait be for you talk one is the perch in Joradell is not stunted and the chubs will do nothen but help the lake, the only lakes that chubs might hurt is lakes that only have trout in them, the lakes that have had chubs in did very good like Starvation or Flaming Gorge when the chubs lost out the lakes went down heal from then. Will the crappie be good or bad I don’t know, But the chubs are a good fish to have in lakes with warmwater fish in..[crazy]

doggonefishin you are right about the perch the more the better and the chubs well it is like when the chubs go so dose the bigger fish, all the fish have to eat to get big…[crazy][crazy]
