Neighbor & I hit the Berry yesterday and fished almost from one end to the other. Finder was beepin’ like crazy all day & driving us nuts 'cause we had a helluva time getting any of them to bite. We tried all of my “go to” holes and tactics with little success. Fished from 0800 to 1730 & only boated five between us, four bows 15 - 18" & one 14" cutt. Man, those bows were some strong, firm muscled fish. Found something that disappointed me in one of the bows when we cleaned 'em. About 10 kernels of corn. Fun day though, beautiful weather & in the morning we saw a herd of 8 elk off to the south of the meadows. Two of them were BIG. Too far away to see horns. Just about sunset we were just north of Mud Creek and four deer came down to drink. One small buck in the bunch. I’ve quit hunting but still love seeing them.
We fished Sunday, I only boated (released near the boat) 9 Cuts, no rainbows. Partner did 2 bows 1 cut. It was a little disappointing, with an exception of one 19 inch cut, took 10 minutes to get in. Thunked a jig tipped with piece of chub, in my honey hole spot. Beautiful fish, multiple runs, runs under the boat, fought as hard as some of the bigger fish in times past.
I tried everything: Leaded line, with dodger and fly, 2 fish. Panther Martin Yellow, 2 cuts top trolled. Rapala 2 fish. Jig 3 fish, but bigger.
Jigs was the way to go, but partner was not a jig fisherman, so hard to concentrate on that when all he was willing to do was spinner.
I orginally thought it would be a 25 fish day for both, when we had doubles on first let out at Haws. Then a couple of more. Tough day. But I wouldn’t trade it. 2 of my hotspots worked.
There was a guy bait fishing on one of MY hot spots. Noticed popcorn on water, He would be suspect of the corn, just cuz he had my spot nailed. Never saw him catch anything, because that hole is a big cut hole, and they are not looking for bait, they want fishies. That where later I got that Fiesty Cut, and last year a 4lb and a 7 lb. Memories
Strawberry can be an enigma.
i fished saturday as well, all flies as usual. did well. 5 bows to the boat, lost 3 more bows close to the boat and lost one slot buster cutt next to the boat as well. seems to be fishing fine. the one thing i noticed is that the fish were shallow, but not as shallow as i thought they would be. they seemed to like nymphs around 11 to 13 feet. this time of year i, opersonally, used to find them in alot more shallow water
I fished it a few weaks back seems like the warm weather and hi water has the fish confused. Or maybe I’m confused but all my go to stuff didn’t produce. Had to try a lot of different spoons spinners and flatfish before I got lucky. All the fish we caught were less than 10 feet of water. My wife and I boated 19 raindows and 4 cutts.
We fished Strawberry Friday, and had some success trolling tube jigs on mono. Caught 4 to 1 rainbows over cutts. Had a good morning, and the weather was great until the high winds hit about noon.
I tried a variety of spinners and hardware, nothing was consistent, best was yellow panther martin, but not that good.
If you open to it, may I ask what did work for you. Thanks
We had success on crawfish-colored tubes early, then switched to white, and then to white Rooster-Tails as the morning grew on.
We just kept switching, each on of us trying something different and different colors until we found a consistant producer.
where were you fishing ? We were out there sunday also but we were on the soldier creek side. Sounds like you guys did ok .
We fished it today all 3 us got a cut out of the slot and several bows. Was a pretty a chilly morning but as soon as the sun started rising it was seemed non stop for a first hour or so. We caught most of them in the ladders area was to laze to paddle anywere else.
This cold front that came in today is going to help. I seem to always do better in the fall when there is a little “chop” in the water. For me, it seems to turn the fishing on a little bit.
I’m gonna try to get up there on Friday again.
We fished it Sunday and between two we boated over 70 fish, it is what lure you use and where that makes them bite..
Our biggest cut way [crazy] I think just over 24" or maybe bigger, or that was the rainbow…Anyway the fishing was great I’m heading up their tomorrow..
