weber again after work... and the monster brown.

hit the weber after work today… only pulled 2 lil guys, a 20 and a 22… sorry no pics!!! i tried to get a pic of the 22 incher but he was a pain and wouldnt hold still ( i have the bloody thumb too prove it.

now too the monster part,

i tossed my 4 inch jerk bait under a tree in an area i have caught big fish in the past… undercut bank, fast run above, slow deep below, and a big ol log jam connected to a whole tree ( classic toad hole ) so i tossed it perfectly under the snags and right in the current seam it was the perfect pitch , i gave it a jerk… then a pause … and a twitch… what happened next scared the crap outta me!!! a ginormous brown came out from the darkness and missed my bait on the first jerk… he literally flew past it!!! he whipped around and charged again… what the heck!!! HE MISSED AGAIN!!! mouth open and all… this would have been by far the biggest brown of my season… after the second miss he gave me the finger and dissappeared into the depths…it was the scariest 3 seconds ever… i was shaking, it was huge!!! my biggest brown this summer went 27 inches and close too 8lbs… this one was at least 30-32 inches.. and i would say 10-13lbs… it was a rediculous fish.. i thought it was a carp until i saw the big ol hook jaw and orange side!!!

they are in there boys… please leave em for me.. hahahahaha jk. .. tight lines

dang, sounds like you missed a toad! are they done spawning there?

I did the same thing this spring with the same fish. I know where you were. That toad is atleast 10# if not bigger. He hit a 7F Brown Trout when i had him. I thought i was snagged and tried to get it out when i realized what it was. Stupid me.[:/]

i belive they are yes… i didnt see any on beds…

haha i did the same thing at a different spot.. i casted a J9 black and gold across the river and my plug stopped in the middle and i thought i was snagged… i pulled back and a 25 inch brown lifted out of the grass!!! haha didnt even see him hit.. lol..

OK, so you have my attention. Heading up Saturday. Any general direction on where some good stretches to fish are (just above Echo, below Rockport, etc.)? I have fished some of the meadow areas in the summer between Rockport & Echo and only found fairly shallow riffles with a few heavily fished pockets. Nothing but small browns in them. Any help is appreciated. You can PM me if you don’t want to broadcast your spots to all. Also any fly or lure recommendations would be great.

I had one of those infamous Weber snags about 2 winters ago. I also tried to get my fly out repeatedly without a budge. Felt pretty stupid when it swam off and then my fly did come out. You newbies to the Webe think twice before you decide that unmovable object is a snag in those deeper holes.

I’ve had sheepish success with Blue Fox spinners on the Weber lately. The biggest I’ve caught so far was 19 inches. Though I have beheld with my eyes some pretty scary sized fish in there. I noticed most of you all mentioned using jigs or plugs. I have NO experience whatsoever using them. Any good ones to have in the tackle box next time I head to my favorite spot?

Big nasty rapalas in trout colors.[;)]

i fly fish all the time up in that area but have never had the chance to hit the weber yet cause my brother wont take me. this weekend i plan on going to the weber and i’d appreciate it very much if someone could tell me about some good parts of the weber. Please PM if you can help. Thanks

You gotta love throwing that Rapala, or whatever you were using in that toad hole, with precision and then tempting that hard strike. If I hadn’t done it so many times myself than I might question your story. But we’ll leave the scrutiny with the bait chuckers. Gotta love it! Tight lines friend[;)].

There are big browns from the headwaters at Smith and Morehouse to the Great Salt Lake delta. All you need to do is get out and fish it. Try above Echo, down by Riverdale, and everywhere in between. Get away from the parking lots as far as you can.[;)]

ive shook off a few huge browns doing the same thing. black over gold #5,s in spring and #9.s in fall. the old drift and twitch dying minnow pres. works great on the provo great on the green also on the maddison ive used it with good results.

totally agree.. i have caught big browns all up and down that river… the trick is being confident enough to stop throwing spinners, and sticking with a lure you might think is too big … or might not be the right color… chances are , you stick with it and the rewards are excelent… and alot of times i catch as many or more fish than i would have throwning the lil stuff… the only difference is the fish range from 19 to gosh idk 30 inches… ( they are there believe me) i have caught browns over 4lbs above rockport all the way out into farr west!!! in holes that were 10-15ft deep to long straight 2ft flats… they are everywhere… just stay away from the obvious pounded holes… and start pitching twitching and jerking your way into some hawgs…!!![;)]
