Wayne County Catfish Festival and Tournament

On May 20 and 21, 2006, the Wayne County Catfish Festival Tournament will challenge anglers to beat those records.

Entry fee for the two event will be $200.00 (boat) Plus optional Big Fish Pot of $10.00/boat.

Mail in entries and paypal entry forms must be received by May 12, 2006. A late charge of $15.00/boat will be applied to all entries received thereafter and at tournament site, (cash only at tournament site).

Teams of up to three anglers per boat will be allowed(youth under the age of 16 and Senior 65 +).. Hours will be:

Anglers will be entering the river from Jaycee Landing in Jesup. Cash and merchandise prizes will be awarded to the teams which weigh-in with the heaviest total catch.

However, should a member of any team land a fish which beats the state record for blue, channel or flathead catfish, that angler will receive a $50,000 prize. If the catch is a world record, the prize will be doubled to $100,000.

“We know there are record-breaking fish in the Altamaha River,” Yeomans said. “We want to see some of those fish caught during our tournament. Nothing would make us happier than to pay the grand prize.”

Yeomans further stated that more information about the tournament will be released as it becomes available. “Magnus Marketing is working with the Tourism Board to help us organize, promote and manage this exciting event,” he said. “We expect to have some stirring announcements in the weeks ahead.”

The Wayne County Catfish Festival will be a celebration of the outdoors lifestyle, with displays, booths and activities designed to please everyone in the family. The festival will introduce kids to the joys of fishing, safe boating and more. Kids of all ages will enjoy displays of boats, fishing tackle and other gear associated with outdoor sports, including a high tech hunting simulator.
