volunteers desperately needed for youth fishing clubs

The youth fishing clubs put on by the DWR are in desperate need of volunteers this year. In the past many dedicated hunters filled these needs to get community hours but that program has changed leaving some communities with no volunteers. Payson has 30 kids signed up and no volunteers and if they dont get any by this Friday they will have to cancel the program for this year. Highland City is also hurting for help this year.

Many other ones are having to turn kids away due to not enough people to help. There is no age limit to be an instructor and no need to be a pro fisherman either. If you have a little time to give and are willing to help kids get hooked on fishing than you are qualified! Please check out the link or call Tonya Kieffer (info below)to help out.

Please don’t let these kids get turned down. They have all the equipment for the kids, they just need volunteers. The faster you call the better as they do have to submit a background check since you will be working with youth.

Forgot to put that if you want to volunteer in Highland call Emily at 801772-4523 or email at

       Thanks, Brian

I sent two emails this winter begging these guys to let me get involved with T-Ville’s fishing program. I got one return email that seemed to be written by a computer that had the “we don’t care, why are you emailing us” button stuck. I didn’t get a response to the second one.

Yes, I’m jaded.

I’ll still help if help is needed in T-Ville.

Well please give it another try. Call and talk to her and I’m sure she would be excited to have your help.

I grew up in Payson, put me down!!

I’m just a volunteer so you will need to call or email those in charge to sign up.

Yeah i already signed up, looks like Payson will prob be cancelled after all, I am the ONLY volunteer, with so many people on here, you’d like 4 guys might be able to find a little time, but i guess not.

Hey TroutBumDave and Kyle, On June 1, 2013 we will be holding a fishing event for 15 families with a child enduring a life threatening illness. The event will be held (22 miles southeast of) Heber City, UT on the Strawberry Reservoir. We are in need of anglers with boats for these very special families; would you be interested in attending?

I am a new dedicated hunter. And I have a boat can I use either or both of these for my community service hours. Also I live about a block from willow park pond. So if the have after work events the that would be ideal.

Gorgefanatic, Here is the brochure for this upcoming fishing event: http://www.childswish.org/pdf/events/Utah_Fishing.pdf We will only be fishing June 1st, 2013; please call me if you are interested. Thank you!

Can you please let us know if these hours count for dedicated hunter. I’m in for next weekend at strawberry no matter what but if I can get my dedicated hunter hours out of the way that would be extra cool.
