I’ll be stuck at the inlaws in a couple weeks down in Utah County. I’ve never fished Utah Lake and would love to catch some White Bass (Iv’e never caught a white bass!) My problem is the lake is so dang big I don’t have a clue where to go or what to do. PM me and I’ll share my honey hole at Hyrum Damn. (for what it’s worth) Last week I pulled 4 Trout and 2 Perch out in ten minutes! Any advise would be great!
Alrighty, even exchange, lol. White bass are hard to find now. December early ice is much more certain. But the best bet is to try the boat harbors. American Fork, state park, pumphouse, lincoln beach, or lindon. Use ice flies, swedish pimples, kastmasters, tube jigs or heddon sonars…by far the most effective lure. If you are extremely lucky you might find a few still. Was thinking of hitting hyrum…east side right?
Thanks for the info! Yea, east side, but I wouldn’t call the whole east side my honey hole! lol I’ll PM you.
I can’t promise big fish but I’ll tell you what I saw the other day. I was working and like to hit the Utah Lake Marinas. I talked with a couple fisherman and checked their licenses at the American Fork boat harbor. One guy had about 40 small white bass on the ice. He was fishing east of the boat ramp on the other side of the fence. He was in front of the private property houses there. He was using small jigs with wax or meal worms. I have heard to move around a lot to find a school so don’t be afraid to drill holes.
Checking fishing licenses is my lame excuse to get out on the ice at work. Whatever works. I checked some guys at Lincoln Beach last week and while one guy was getting his license out his pole started to twitch. I asked him if I could pull it up and he said to go for it. I picked up the pole and pulled up a bluegill. First time I have fished while working. I think I need to find a part time job to be paid to fish.
Good luck, hopefully you can find some fish. If you get into some bigger white bass return the favor and let me know.
Hey fishluvr, that’s cool. I didn’t know we had any DWR guys on here. Might be able to give some us a little more insight on some things.
Sorry, fishluvr is not DWR, but he is in a position that gives him the authority to check fishing licenses…as well as all other potential legal violations.
We do have several DWR personnel who contribute to the boards from time to time, and we are continually monitored by many of the other biologists and officers. So, be careful how critical you are of their policies and procedures. Might save you a retaliatory ticket sometime. (LOL)
If you saw my statement last Sat. night on KUTV’s outdoor show at Yuba, they know how I feel. Even my son knows the law and why.
No retalitory tickets for me!
What’s a retaliatory ticket? Sounds like something I may need to start writing more of!! I wonder if there’s a code for that. The only thing similar to that I’ve heard of is the contempt of cop ticket!!!![]()
Move around a lot. And revisit your old holes to find the white bass.
Good luck to ya. (sorry to about the inlaws[crazy])
If I can find a good fishing hole visiting the in-laws won’t be to bad![:)]
