I have been driving around a few mountain areas fishing on rivers and I was looking at Utah lake and it looks like a thin sheet of ice Utah lake is that true? Have anyone fished or close to Utah lake seen any ice?
No ice yet. You’ll have a while before that happens.
Ok ya I was just curious because it looked like ice ha ha ha.
Someones a little too excited for ice fishing season lol.
Yes ![]()
Keep a rope handy.
you might be a widdle early.
Checking my backyard barometer - I had some surfaces skim ice, but it wouldn’t hold more than a pine-cone at this time.
I’ve heard of folks stepping out onto 1" of early ice at UL, but me - I like a good 3-4" before I feel comfy! YMMV
November 17th is the earliest that I can recall, but it is usually into December before it gets the 4 inches needed. I know a lot of people get on the 2-3 inches that form early, but I choose not to swim that late in the season !!
Take a mental note of what you saw because UL is only that calm one time every 10 years, so you were fortunate to see that[:p]
The best fishing at UL is at 2 inches thick in the harbors. By the time that 4 inch ice sheet occurs it slows down. 2 inches is plenty safe, just be smart about it.
Think light thoughts LOL!
