Hey guys, I had a great day at utah lake, I caught three channel cats all of them were about 18 inches. I caught them on a bait called sure shot punch bait. I would have caught more but they would have caught more they would always swim into the reeds and break my line.
Did you go to the pelican point marina again? I almost launched from there yesterday but decided to launch the toon from the Knolls instead. Big mistake; rarely saw any blips and only caught bullhead. Lots of carp balls everywhere.
Here kitty kitty! Nice ones - that 's a good size - fun tugs.
You know what TD sez - fish don’t break lines, fishermen do. It’s just that the fish have a way of doing everything they can to HELP that fisherman break that line.
Is that like a dough bait, or a dip bait?
It is atcually a bait called punch bait, all you have to do is get a plain treble hook and get a stick (I use a wooden ruler) and push the hook down into the bait, then you pull it out at an angle and you get a nice little glob of bait.
See, and here a couple weeks back you were lamenting how it seemed you were NEVER gonna catch a catfish! Good to see you’ve got em dialed in!
How heavy is your line? Losing fish is part of life, but medium catfish like that shouldn’t just be able to bully you. They aren’t line shy, and my catfish rod is the only one I have with 10 lb test on it, personally…
I guess that’s your next challenge, eh?
Meat, meat, meat and some more meat if you want to catch some big one’s ,or shrimp,i went down last night and caught 5+ fish over 10lbs i lost count, both pole’s would get bit at the same time,. Some with white bass and some with shrimp. Nice catch your on tour way to an addictive sport fish!!! They fight great and taste great also.. good luck on your comming adventures..
Way to go on them kitties. Wish I could get some time to go after them.
A suggestion: I’ve had several cats twist themselves off one of those spring clip stringers. Get yourself one that’s just a section of rope with a needle like thing on one end and a good solid ring on the other. String the first one by putting the needle through the gills and then through the ring. The rest can just be slid down the rope. Ya just gotta tie the needle end securely.
Tristen,
Nice job man, I knew with your determination you would figure it out!
Obviously you are going to keep those cats to eat, let me give you some tips that has really helped with the taste of all the fish I keep to eat. I will post my tips in the next couple of minutes.
Congrats on going to Texas. You are going to need more jig heads down there, I will put some more on your moms desk in the morning.
See ya, Shane
