utah lake Catfish

Was just wondering where would be a good place to go catfishing form the shore at utah lake. I have always heard there are some monster cats in there. I live in willard so it is kind of a drive for me. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

:sunglasses:There are a lot of cats…and BIG cats…caught from in and around the harbors on the lake. They are usually the easiest places to drive to, park and fish. But they also usually cost money.

Pelican Bay Marina, on the west side, has good dike fishing and charges only for launching a boat.

Further around on the west side is the Knolls. Lots of free parking and decent fishing from shore in many spots…when the fish are in.

If you don’t mind driving even further you can go around the south side of the lake…Lincoln Beach or off the shoreline toward Goshen Bay.

Here’s a generalized map.

Thanks a ton tubedude you really are “TheMan”

Awesome map, Pat. I need to get down there again soon. Last kitty with any size that I’ve caught out of UL was a decade ago- it’s been too long.

Like you said, the fish have to be in the area. Seems like the last few times I’ve been down there, the fish have haven’t gotten the memo.

:sunglasses:Don’t take it personally. Fish of all species are notorious for messin’ up the fishing plans of humans. Some of us have spent a lot of years trying to get to know enough about specific waters and species to be able to make “educated” guesses. But, fish travel in schools and they are usually smarter than we are.

The best I can do is keep track of weather patterns, check out fishing reports and go back through my fishing logs and my mental database of past experience. Then I formulate a Plan A, B & C. If I get it right, I catch fish. If not, I blame it on somebody or something else. Isn’t that what you are supposed to do if you are a fisherman?

But since you’re coming from the north I would also suggest for the sake of time that you go to either American fork boat harbor or Lindon boat harbor. There is a small fee to walk in but generally the fishing is good. And yes there are big catfish in there. Now that the weather is consistantly warm, the action is really going to pick up! Let a worm sit on the bottom and you’ll be ready to land some big ones. And by the way make sure you have a little stronger string than what reels come with from the store
