Went to Utah lake saturday evening with StrictlyBizness to fish for some largemouth. I had a few hits, and about a 22" slip my hook, but landed nothing. He had a little more luck on his side. slim tube jigs fished slow seemed to work.

Those are some fine lookin fish. My neck hurts now from trying to look at them.
Uh-oh…the cat is out of the bag now…man, that 2nd fish was a good fish…man did it feel good to do that after such a terrible winter! Har! And what is this about a 22" slip your hook? I don’t get it…Oh, wait, that’s right, as in…your hook slipped along 22 inches of someone else’s fishing line that they broke off in the water. That’s right… heh [sly]
Tube Dude, it hurts me to tilt my head to the side to look at those pictures…care to flip 'em? Pleeease… [angelic]
Nice bass, Its great to be getting some open water now…
Let me guess- thats in saratoga springs harbor or its vincinity?
You can guess all you want, doesn’t mean either ebass or I are going to tell you where that *really *was…
We’re headed back on Saturday and I don’t feel like having 4 other boats crowded around me…
That just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over! Come on spring hurry up!
You don’t want 4 other boats in there with you? You should think about that before you post pictures that put you in only one possible location. You don’t need to be too cautious though, everyone that fishes for LMB at Utah Lake hits that spot. Nice fish. Good work.
I never knew there were secret spots at Utah Lake, unless someones is dumping christmas trees out in the middle, like fishing in a soup bowl, not alot of hidden treasure there or anywhere for that matter. Right weather, right time, right color, right speed, lots of factors other than location and if they don’t know what they are doing you just follow up the spot and do what the previous people didn’t.
There are spots at Utah Lake that hold LMB. They are not secret to the people (like SB) that have spent the time and effort to locate them. It’s not like Powell, or Quail, or Sand Hollow. Location is critical to catching LMB at Utah Lake, with any consistency anyway.
Man…I just can’t seem to win. It used to be that I would make posts all of the time stating exact locations of where I was fishing because I never felt like any of the spots I was fishing were all that secret. Like has been mentioned, anyone around here who can actually consistently catch bass, already know most of the same spots I do. However, without fail, anytime I mentioned any specific locations there would always be at least one person sending me a PM and and being all hurt that I said that name of a location.
So now, I’ve tried to NOT say specific locations as much, and now I get crap from the other half of the crowd!! Off the top of my head, I can think of 13 different spots on Utah Lake where I consistently catch largemouths. I personally have no problem posting a report and telling the exact location for 9 of those. There are only three spots on UL that I feel like are fairly secretive, and have never ever seen nor heard of anyone else fishing for largemouths in those 3 spots. Unless you are a close friend of mine and I specifically told you about the spot myself. Now, as it turns out, I’m giving up on trying to please anyone here at this point and I’m just going to post whatever information I want. If you get hurt because I’m giving up one of your “honey-holes,” that’s just too bad. If I give the name of a location, it’s only because I know that anyone who can catch bass around here already knows about that spot. If you get hurt because I don’t want to say where I caught some fish, then too bad! Take whatever advice you get and just invest a little bit of time figuring it out yourself.
With that being said…of course it’s Saratoga Springs. It’s not that hard to realize that bass will congregate around warmer water when the rest of the lake is 40 degrees. You can all go ahead and fish in there for all I care, just make sure that you do it legally from a boat. As far as I’m concerned, you can have 8 other boats in there, but there will probably only be one boat catching fish.
[crazy]
**Hey, I thought you were married. You should know by now that you can’t keep everybody happy all the time. Heck, us married guys can’t even keep ONE PERSON happy even part of the time. **
**So, don’t pet the sweaty stuff…or however that goes. There is no law that you have to post ANY report…or that you have to give exact GPS points…or that you have to hook the fish and hand the rod off to dimbulbs who couldn’t catch a starving bass with a live minnow. **
This forum is about sharing what we can…and will. As we have said many times before, it is great to give COMPLETE details on waters and species that are not likely to suffer from more pressure. However, if you have found something SPECIAL, it is your right to decide how much info to divulge. Anybody who complains about your “carefully considered” download is being selfish and unreasonable. Don’t let their attitudes ruin yours.
**You are 100% right about your favorite spots. Some of them are probably known by a whole lot of folks, but there are only a few that can put everything together…place, lure, presentation, finesse, touch, hooksetting, etc…to score fish on any given occasion. **
Most Utah Lake anglers are not LMB specialists and will make a few casts, with whatever is tied on the end of their lines at the time, and then declare the spot to be fishless if they do not get bit. Dedicated bassers use their mental databases to suggest the right lure and right approach and then they are tuned in to the sometimes “know nothing” take of a cold water bass…and they hook up.
Just like walleyes, I suspect that a great many of the bass caught in Utah Lake are caught by anglers fishing for something else…ANYTHING ELSE. And, once they have caught a couple of bass by accident, they seem to feel they are qualified to hold forth whenever anybody starts talkin’ bass. “Heck fire, catchin’ bass is easy. Just chunk a gob of carp guts next to the weeds…and if you can keep the catfish off yer line you will catch lots of bass.” Yeah, right.
So, keep on fishin’ and you make your own decisions about who you want to tell what, and how much. If you want to tell more to some folks, use the PM function. That is what it’s for. If you wanna take somebody out for a “show and tell” session, that’s cool too. But, don’t take it personally when another BFTer challenges you for withholding information. Chances are that even if you told them exactly where and how you got your fish, they would not be able to duplicate your success. But, it can be a bother to have to wait for a line of other boats (or bank tanglers) to thrash your water to a froth before you get a shot at the fish yourself.
Pfffftttt… You made a cardinal mistake when you posted that photo of the house in the background! I recognized that house big time! Don’t worry about that ok the “secret” is safe, cuz tube dude is correct in his most recent posts. But then again most Utah lakers with a bass boat will recognize that locale, its not a secret! Its only a secret from those recreationalist weekend fishermen.
I am one of those specialists who targets walleyes, and bass. Yes I have accidentally caught a damned pesty catfish or a white bass when I do my finessee fishing. it’s all in the matter of timing, and presentation.
TD somehow always has something awesome to say. haha Good work.
Last night I was just fed up with the fact that no matter what I say lately around here, someone has always got to complain about something. I agree with basically everything TD just said. And I’ve spent the last 20 minutes here typing up a response, but none of it is really worth saying. haha. So I’ll just leave it at that.
I reread this post and didn’t see anyone giving anyone crap about not giving enough information. Am I missing something? Or are you talking about me giving you a hard time about posting pics and then not wanting people to be in there when you want to fish?
WOW!!! That’s alot of huff and puff over a fish your not allowed to keep. Regardless of what anyone else said. Thanks for the post and those are some beauties. I would love to catch one just like for myself. But don’t worry I don’t care where you caught them. I’ll find them for myself.[;)]
chuck and i fished it tuesday. ya yesterday. lol we caught bass on black n red and blue n black. chuck caught a good one like yr big pic. 1st time he has ever gotten me to fish for bass in 20 yrs. lol i would have never cast what we cast into yesterday. but he finally taght me how to catch bass. ive caught 1000s over the yrs while fishing eyes. but never went just for bass. ken
Looks like I started something fun here…I didn’t read all of the posts so Im sorry to SB if he didn’t want the house in the background. Anyways, I’m sure we’ll see some of you guys this saturday…
