(KSL News) – Those playing on the water this weekend will have to abide by a new Utah law in effect today. Owners of motorboats and personal watercraft must have liability insurance.

I was told that anyboat powered with less than a 50HP motor was not required to be insured ? also I use a pontoon boat that is regitered with a electric trolling motor is this also required to be insured ?
Any help on this one would be thankful

Hey timmit,

You are correct, only boats with greater than 50 HP have to be insured now under Utah law. That means your pontoon boat does not have to be insured.
