I’m a noob to warm water fishing. I was down at Lincoln Beach, running fresh 10lb line, a carp snapped it right before I could land it. My q is: Will a carp care if I’m fishing 30lb braided line?
They can be spooked easy, but try it. I use 10 lb fluoro and have several break offs.
Fish don’t break line. Fishermen do.

Use quality line, tie good knots and set your drag right. Also, when the fish is getting close to shore you need to remember that the line is shorter…with less stretch…so it is easier to break it if you get impatient and try to horse the fish in before it is ready to give up. That is where most fish break off and it is usually the anglers’ fault.
PS – One should also remember to allow the fishing rod to help absorb some of the sudden jerks from the fish. This is not possible if one points the fishing rod at the fish.

Good point. Lots of “jerks” on both ends of the line…especially when one of the jerks gets too excited by a big fish.
Also a good reason to be sure that your rod is properly balanced to the strength of the line you are using. A very stout rod and light line do not work well together. Should be a balance of line strong enough to handle large fish and a rod just strong enough to handle that weight line without popping it easily. The rod should also act together with the line as a shock absorber.
I caught some big carp last night on 6 lb test, along with some nice wipers. You have to set your drag loose and fight the fish, dont let the fish fight you [:p]
Catching carp is a great way to learn how to fight bigger fish. I used to take my kids to a pond that was loaded with carp. We would catch them using ultralight rods and 4-pound test line. With the right rod and a well adjusted drag, it was difficult for the fish to break the line, even though some were in the 10-pound range. The kids would sometimes complain about getting tired from fighting the fish.

Nobody answered your question though… I have 25# braid on one of my Ugly Sticks and I’ve caught more carp than I can shake a stick at out of Utah Lake. They don’t give a rats corn-hole.
