UL Lindon 6/4

My 3 boys and I made our annual late spring trip to Utah Lake on Saturday looking for kitties. We arrived around 8:15 a.m. A bit colder this year, the water as well as the weather. I was surprised how high the lake is.

We went South a couple of miles and stared fishing the edges of the reeds. 2 cats bam, bam, right off the bat, then nothing for the next 45 minutes. Decided to move. Next spot, same result. Bam, bam, then nothing. Decided to move again. This time we found an opening and edged the boat way back in to a sheltered spot that opened up in the reeds. That was the ticket. The cats weren’t out on the edges, they were up in the reeds. I think the water was too deep out on the edges anyway. Well, it was wasn’t fast, but pretty steady for the next couple of hours. Nothing big, but all healthy 15-18 inch channels. Being in the reeds, it made some for some interesting catching, dealing with fish wrapping around reeds and snagging up occasionally. When it was all said and done, we had 20 channels, 1 white bass, and turned loose 2 bullheads. My electric fillet knife was quite hot by the time I was finished that evening.

I filled the smoker yesterday morning and smoked over half of them. Then and we had a great fish fry yesterday evening with what we had left over. Both turned out excellent. I even had a little fried catfish left over for lunch today.

Great Report! Glad to hear the cats are starting to play in closer to shore.

What bait were you using ???

Almost all of them came on nightcrawlers. I used carp meat most of the day and only caught 2 on the meat, go figure.

Awesome report! I’ve been wanting to do the same, but waiting to read something like this to do it. Nice job!

I always took several baits last year on every trip, and every single time I did best on crawlers myself. :sunglasses:
