I’m moving out of Utah on Monday so I decided to hit the Uintas one last time before leaving. My plan was to hit Trial in the early morning, then hike to Long lake, eat lunch, and then go to Marjorie or Weir. I got to Trial about 7am and fished for a couple of hours. I caught 4 fish. All planters. I caught them on a panther martin, a Lil Jake, and a wooly bugger. So no real pattern that I could find. I hiked into Long lake and got there around 9:30. I immediately started catching fish on a gold with red dots Jakes lure. I tried a wooly bugger behind a bubble and never got a single hit. The fish kept biting all the way up to lunch. I took a break for lunch and decided I would just stay at Long lake since I was catching fish. I tried Long pond below the lake but it was a total bust. Every fish that I caught was on the Jakes lure and they were all near the surface. I stayed until about 8pm and I caught somewhere between 20-30 brookies and missed way more. The trail in still has snow in a lot of places but it’s easily passable. It was really sloppy and wet on the way out and a good amount of water was running down the trail. I’ve had better days up there but it was gorgeous scenery and enough fish to keep me busy.
nice report. hope you find grat fishing wherever you are headed.
Good luck!
