I ended up going to Twin again on Thursday. I got on the water around 10:45 and the fish started hitting right away. They were all over the zipper worm type baits, and I also scored a few on wacky rigged stick baits. Overall fish were a little smaller than Tuesday, but still caught several good sized fish including a 17,18 and 19" bass. I also tested out my new 8wt for the first time and was really happy with how well it laid down big poppers. Scored a few on the popper which is always fun. There were more people on the water so I was pretty much confined to one small area. About 1 the wind hit and there were small white caps on the lake. I fought it for a little bit, I even caught the 18" then. With the clear water I actually got a clear shot of it coming out of the trees to nab my worm. About 2 I ditched the tube and waded the inside of the tree line until I had to leave at 3, catching a bunch more bass, mostly smaller 10" fish with some nicer ones to around 16". I ended up with 45 bass and 5 bluegill. The gills are all over the shallows now and I cracked out the 3/4wt and played with them on dry flies for a little bit.
Friday I went to Oneida Narrows Reservoir and went looking for some smallie fun and walleye/perch dinner. Didn’t make it onto the water until around 2. The wind was bad for much of the afternoon, but I still had a decent trip. I ended up catching 31 smallmouth, 5 walleye and 2 green sunfish. I never did find perch. I marked some schools of fish on the bottom in 20-30 feet of water, but nothing would hit. I thought I found them another time as my jig was nipped a few times and had it’s tail ripped off. I tossed out a smaller jig and ended up scoring the 2 sunfish. I was kind surprised to find them in 20 feet of water, they’re usually up against the bank. The fish hit on a wide variety of lures, Slug-Gos, tubes, grubs, deep X-Raps, and Clackin Raps. I also scored some on my fly rod with a perch imitation that I made up just for the smallies up there. Most of the bass were smaller 8-10" fish with a few bigger and some real dinks of about 6". The walleye were smaller 10-12". I kept the walleye and a couple of bass and had some delicious tacos that night. The river looked good on the way home, so I made a few casts catching 2 more bass and a rainbow before I got crowded out by the hordes.
