tube and toon question

[fishin] tube and toon question?
after attending tonights toon and tube meeting
i was just curious how many people tube or toon on a
regular basis?

and why do you prefer to toon or tube?

anyway it was great to meet all of you i had a great time.

Does a kayak count?

Because I can fit a boat in the trunk of my car…[:p]

I normally would just fish rivers but I got a tube last year because the rivers were so out of control. I realized how much fun i was missing neglecting lake fishing. So this year I bought a pontoon and loving it!

I have been running a tube for almost thirty years. I got my first one when I was 14 and have used one every year since then.

I have had regular boats and they have their place also but when it comes right down to it its the tube for me most of the time.

You don’t have to register them unless you put a motor on them. They are easier to haul around. Can get back into places the full sized boats have a hard time getting into.

The two things that are on the down side are that with out a motor trolling isn’t really an option and the other thing is that alot of people that are sitting on the shore want to kick your butt for some reason.

I was fishing down at the Lindon Boat Harbor last summer and had bee out fishing off of the north dike for most of the day. As I started heading back I could hear some guy hootin and hollerin and carrying on only as drunks can. When this guy finally notices that I am getting closer to them he tells me that I can’t be there and that I had better head back out or he will deal with me. I let it go for awhile and his threats kept getting worse the closer to shore that I got. Finally when I had heard enough I told him that I was coming in anyway he got real upset and said that him and his buddies was going to work me over and then he threatend to stab me with a knife.

As I climbed out of the water and he got a good look at my size all of a sudden he shut up and wouldn’t even look in my direction. Not that I am big and bad but a 6’4" 270 lb. frame was more than he wanted to play with I guess.

I couldn’t tell you how many times I have heard people laugh about popping your tube and watch you go down. They must not realize how well sound travels on water.

I can honestly say I have never fished from a “tub”, although the new boat resembles one.
I grew up with the snake river as my back yard so, car tire float tubes since I was maybe 4 (sisters got tired of pulling me out)[:)]
First real made for fishing float tubes, I started with a Caddis Donut over 30 years ago. I ended up adding the first Float Power (small tube for a battery and motor)
I bought a U shaped tube also. A bucks Bag. But I hated the cross bar. Then came the SFC. Loved that boat.
But I was getting beat up by the waves and such while my Hubby was digging pontooning. He had one of the first Leighs and that was truly a mistake design. He then bought his first Scadden and I tried to get up out of the water with the Day Tripper (another terrible design) I realized I needed oars as well so then bought a Bucks Bag Alpine. 6’ long and wonderful pontoon.

Loving the pontoon idea we also looked for easy packing in to waters. Bought two Venture Outdoors Echos and they were great. Getting older however, not fond of the weight. Then went with the Freestle H3. Best V shaped tube to this day. After that, the first NFO “Navigator II” which was basically a H3 in a 9’ model but with oars and a zipper in the back to put a motor through.
Well that turned into the new OUTLAW versions.

I also have a Cardiac Canyon (11’6" 12" diameter pontoon) which was the ultimate pontoon and also an Escalade which was like a canoe.

We have owned Boat like Rinker, Alumicraft, Monarch, but I prefer the freedom of a pontoon and I now have a light weight packable pontoon to fit all the needs

(but we do still own an Aluminum boat..he, he, he)

HA i would be someone to shout ha i hate when people cross over right where your fishing 15 ft from shore normally ill real in and cast right next to them its annoying especially when they are casting staring right at you alot of guys on tubes and boats are real D’s ha

They are that way even when they show up after I am already out fishing and never get with in a hundred yards and they leave before I even head for shore.

And if you are catching fish out where they have no chance of even getting close to?

FORGET ABOUT IT.

+1
I can teach you about yakking. not a tube.

I just sold my toon and bought a kayak that I’ll be trying out this weekend. I had a motor on the tone but it creats quite a drag on the water. Its nice cuz you sit out of the water. I have a canoe with a motor that I often use. I had a doughnut, sold it and am keeping my u-tube. It doesn’t have good support but has its place.

I have 2 toons with motors, batteries, holders, everything you need. Even a 11ft tailor to pull them with. They are the rivendale brand. You sit on a seat on top of a platform so you can stand up on it if needed. You can call me if you want to talk. I live in the roy area.

Those Rivendale were interesting boats…too bad they are no longer. I would love to see one in person.

Have you stood up on one? I had the full deck on my Cardiac, but too scared to try to stand without some kind of a bar to hold on to. Lakes are never “that” calm…LOL

there is a support bar with a stripping basket. Thats where the motor hooks onto also. I have stood up on it. mine is 9ft, so it’s not too bad to stand on. the other one is 8.5 ft. I also have another complete set of 8.5 ft that have never been used.

I got to share some water with you so I can see one of these boats. Always thought they were a great idea. Thanks for the reply.
