David and I haven't got to fish for shellcracker and bream in over 5
years. The crappie have been to strong to pull away from. With the crappie
acting like idiots, it was time. Nightcrawlers, long shank crickets, and black-hair
jigs, cooler full of food, lets go, Cool weather, and cloud cover forced out the
hoodies. It is still early for the shellcracker and bream bus too unload, but we
found some early sniffers anyway. Note to self: Bring a box of hooks next
time, the shellcracker will swallow a long shank hook out of sight,We ran out
and had to use 1/32 oz. crappie jigs. We found some nice shells, several 10
inchers, the best at 10 3/4 inch. We caught 53 nice breams and shells, I kept
around 30 that I fileted out. David and I had a blast, catching those mean
crackers makes you feel like a kid again. The wind built to unfishable levels
as the day went on, we will return soon for the bus arrival.
