The Mantua Blues

Man, that looks like a lot of fun. I didn’t know you kayak. What do you have, how is it rigged? Im looking for ideas for mine.

It is a very cheap craft…only $200 bucks! It fits in my car, I can carry it solo to the beach and it has plenty of room for me and my gear. There are enough straps on the thing to hold down a large net, couple of fishing rods, and a paddle.

Gonna have to rig and anchor system to the thing. Eventually I intend to rig up a motor, fish finder, and down rigger to the thing.

Fished out of it twice…and I LOVE IT!

First off I could care less if you took an 8lber as I’m sure you would. It’s just funny how defensive you get when I don’t see where anyone was saying anything to get so emotional over

I take it you fish for bass fattygreens?

I agree with TDT…seems like I go out, have a great day, catching great fish, taking some great pictures, having a great time…and then I take an hour out of my day to basically get a lecture about how I am a problem to the waters I fished.

Mantua has the regulations it does in place by the DWR for a reason. Perhaps you guys should take a step back and talk to your local DWR biologist about your concerns regarding the largemouth bass at Mantua. I am sure they would be more than willing to answer your questions. I would know, I have contacted them before regarding other waters, and got more information back than I could handle.

Have at it guys, Im out.

I don’t think a call to the DWR would be needed to find out that if you keep big bass, there is going to be less big bass. That’s just basic math.

You’re perfectly within your legal rights to drive through a school zone over and over with a blood alcohol content of .079. People are probably going to frown upon that too.

I don’t even specifically fish for bass. It bums me out when people keep bigger fish of any species when theres plenty of smaller ones for the taking.

I did enjoy reading your post though, and you always post great pictures. I haven’t even been to Mantua myself yet, but I hope when I finally get up there, there’s some bass left.

wow its no wonder people give up on this site, we are now comparing keeping a fish for dinner to driving while intoxicated in a school zone.

I wasn’t comparing the two. I was just trying to discredit the “since it’s legal I should do it” theory.

U were comparing the two and now your embarrassed its understandable.

U were comparing the two and now your embarrassed its understandable.Embarassed? I think not. Ethics are ethics, and both scenarios involve these ethics. I don’t feel in this particular case that there was anything “unethical” happening. If I liked eating bass, keeping two decent bass to eat out of a sub-par fishery seems fine to me. In his defense, he’ll probably not go keep two more this season from there. Now if he kept that many several times a week, it would become an issue. Bass fishing is what it is in Utah…barely OK. Eviltyedye isn’t going to hurt it! I am understanding of you bassguys concerns though, and feel your pains. I’m kinda lucky they’re not messin’ with my brook trout yet! That’s NOT a challenge![;)][;)]

They’s jist sumpin ‘bout sumbuddy bitchin’ ‘bout sumbuddy else keepin’ a cuppl big fish whut makes my butt hurt.

My gawd, people…I for one really enjoy the posts from etdt and tdt. People need to stop the needless nitpicking and appreciate that they are sharing their pics and adventures. I dont want them to leave the site because some know it all yahoo has to stay stupid stuff any time they question whether or not someone else should have kept a legally caught fish. Give it a rest.
Twins, please keep posting. I dont get out as much as i would like so i enjoy the great reports. There is nothing wrong with ocassional harvest of legal fish. It lets th e little guys get bigger.

lol that made sense my ethical decision was to go harvest a bunch of perch today thank goodnesss I didnt choose to drink a six pack and roll thru school zones good grief!

Were there any Asians harvesting any “Big Guns” ?

Haha. +1 [bobhappy]

Were there any Asians harvesting any “Big Guns” ?

Awesome.

That being said, I agree with UVUBass and Scartinez – but I also don’t give a flying monkey turd if the TDT’s keep their legal limit on any fish, on any water. I’ve kept a few Big Guns in my day for different reasons, but I let 99% of my fish back into the water. I’ve fished w/ the TDT’s and trust me, they release FAR MORE fish than they harvest. Once they break the law, feel free to get those panties in a bunch. Until then, relax… Lot’s of bass in the sea.
