The Deer Creek

Went to DC with my dad. Got on the water about 5:30pm, and headed up to the Charleston side by the inlet.

We trolled our way up the lake and picked up some bows. They fought pretty hard, but weren’t very big at all. All around 16 or 17 inches.

We started trying for smallmouth off points and near cover. I had a couple hits but couldn’t seem to hook up with anything (very frustrating). I don’t know if they were dinks or what. I threw everything at them, but was getting hits on a dropshotted senko.

We drifted into about 25 ft of water, and the sun was setting. I put on a firetiger rapala style lure (cheap knockoff). I threw the lure, and on the first cast I picked up a walleye. Picked up a couple more real fast. My dad put on a perch pattern rapala and caught two. They weren’t very big, but they’re fun [;)]

It was a pretty fun night on the water. Thanks to all those who offered your input :sunglasses: sorry if the pics are small. They were taken quick with a cell phone

Sounds like a blast to me.

Very nice work for DC. I think if you get anything there it is a good day at the DC! You make me want to get my 1st Walleye even more now.

What were you trolling? And at what depths. any advice would be appreciated .Went there 2 weeks ago and nada, nothing, skunked .

We were having the most success on a Luhr-Jensen Cowbell Lake Troll with a worm. We were using leadcore line and trolling at about 15-25 feet deep (average water depth was 30-35). The fish seemed to be in the middle of the water column. I also caught one trolling a small floating rapala on a three-way rig, but it seemed pretty random.

There were a handful of boats trolling, but I didn’t see anyone else catching fish. I think the reason may be that we were trolling dirt SLOW…barely fast enough to get the blades on the troll spinning, and we were making big “S” curves.

I hope this helps. Good luck

Great Job!!! Gotta love it when everything comes together for you!:sunglasses:
