Sunday on Willard

Third trip to Willard in three weeks. First trip yielded a monster Crappie, second trip allowed the GF to catch the only fish of the day ( 21" Walleye ) and today yielded me my first Walleye in three years. Got on the water at 6 AM and caught that bugger at 11:50!! My buddy said to be careful eating that fish…something might be wrong with it !! It fed me, my GF and my youngest son with some mighty fine tacos! Tough to beat the weather on a day like this.

FISH ON!

Welcome to the site HWF and thanks for posting your report. So how big was the monster crappie?
WH2

Thanks for the welcome! It was close to the size of a dinner plate would be the way I’d describe it. He went for a ride around the bay in my livewell for an hour or so then he was put back to be with his friends since it was the only one we caught that day. Do you get into the Wipers out there? I saw my first “boil” with those guys darting all over the place but I wasn’t prepared to throw anything at them. I plan on spending a fair amount of time out there since it’s close to home.

The wiper catching has been slow so far this year but now the water temps are finally climbing, the catching should turn on. It usually gets good when the water temps are around 70*. What you saw was likely just the beginning of what a true boil is like, it should really get going very soon, if not this week, at least I hope[;)]. We have had two days this year where we caught 5 and 6 wipers and all I can tell you is get ready for the fight of your life[:)], a big one can pull the pole out of the boat if you are not ready. It’s almost “Wiper Time”[sly]

Hopefully you’ll be prepared next time! You can troll that lake just about all day sometimes and only catch a wiper or two… on the other hand if you come across a boil you can limit out in 6 casts!

last year it never seemed to get to “wiper time” for me, do you think this year will be any different? Maybe I just need to tag along with you and learn from the master

Yea, last year was a tough one for a lot of us. We could catch a few but nothing like in years past, sure, a few guys had good days here and there but again nothing like it was a few years before. As far as this year goes, who can say, until it is here we won’t know for sure. Master, LOL, no that me, I know the lake better than a lot of people but not hardly a master of catching. Old_Coot seems to do better than me most of the time and he proved it this last Sat. We can get out there and give it a try after I get my motor running right, if you like but I know you have fished with Ralph and I before so it could be the same as that time[:/].

Yep I’m bad luck  I told him last time that was 0 for 2 so he must owe me at least one more try

6/6/2011 Not a bad day at all for me today. Wind was blowin too bad to put the boat in so my wife and I hit the inlet. Caught a total of 2 in 30 min. Wind and rain blew us away pretty quick.http://www.bigfishtackle.com/photos/data/500/medium/2011-06-06_14_33_21.jpg
