Strawberry surprise

I decided to take advantage of the sunny weather on Saturday with my wife, daughter and son in law and pulled the boat up to the Berry. We started out trolling around the chicken creek area working our way toward the narrows. The bites were slow and rare with a couple of chunky bows and cutts showing interest, but not many were playing. We pulled up the minnkota and ran up to the narrows and dropped lines and got hits right away, including a fully spawning red kokanee that I was not expecting out in the middle of the channel. They are so interesting in their full spawn colors and shape. He had a huge hump on the top of his back and the huge hooked teeth. Other than him we picked up a couple nice cutts and bows but it was still pretty slow overall. The fall colors are just stunning right now so the trip was well worth the drive even if the fishing was a little slow. Im going to try to get back up again this weekend if weather permits. These are some of the better fish we picked up.

Nice hooked jaw male, really cool seeing them in their spawning colors. Great pics. Did you by chance try any jigging while you were there, most people do better jigging this time of the year

I saw quite a few people anchored up and jigging but didnt see many fish coming up. We did cast a variety of tube jigs and spinners toward shore but had no takers. Trolling was the only method we caught them on. I think the bluebird day had most of the bite slowed down.
