strawberry question

Was wondering if anyone knew if the suckers are spawning at Ladders yet. Thanks

I did not know there were Suckers in the Berry, have you caught them there yourself?

Yes I have caught them, some years they are really thick in there

Suckers or chubs?

suckers

Well that is interesting, how big do they get there? I’ve caught them in the Weber and Bear rivers but never at the Berry.

I assume he means chubs, which kind of look like suckers. Fished the ladders 100+ times and have never caught or seen a sucker, let alone lots of them.

They’re suckers. Utah Suckers, not June Suckers. There can be tons of them.

I pulled one through the ice a couple of years ago. Probably went 2 lbs 10 oz. I was very surprised when I got it to the top of the ice. Made a post on March 6, 2014 citing the sucker with a video.

If I remember correctly, there was a big sucker die off do to the heat a few years back - over by the ladders.

I know over the years for me that their were times when I’ve fished the narrows with a pop gear wedding ring setup that I couldn’t keep those suckers off my poles. Theirs still alot more than you probably here about.

Suckers (I “believe”) are early season spawners. I have caught them near the ladders in early/mid May on flies. Some quite big (~20") and sporty, but still a letdown when so see them for the first time after expecting a 2-foot Cutt to come into view. :sunglasses:

I’ll second the sucker catch. I have caught them through the ice. I would say 2#

I’ve caught them too. There are suckers in Strawberry.

That’s not too bad, just the right size for cut bait.

If I remember right the water temp. at fish lake was 50 or a bit better when the suckers were doing the pre spawn set up. I would assume same temp. at the Berry.
I did not record the temp. like I should have.
