Sorry for the late report. I had half a day off on Friday so I took my 6 year old up and figured I would try Strawberry. I had heard reports that Mud Creek had Ice so I figured CCE (Chicken Creek East) would be frozen also. No go it was wide open. Chicken Creek West had a little ice in that small bay out from the snow plow station. I headed over to Mud Creek- figured I would try something. I was the only one on the lake and the wind had blown all the tracks off so it was very very difficult to see where people had been. Followed a few tracks out about 20 yards and punched a hole and the ice cracked the entire length of the lake- my 6 year old took off like a dart (he is much smarter than his dad). Took about 10 minutes to get him back on the ice. Punched a few holes in about 10 to 12 feet of water- I did not dare to go out any further. Ice was 2 maybe 2 1/2 inches at the max. Three cranks with my new blades and you would pop right though. Little skinny for my taste. Fishing- very slow. We iced 1 nice cut abut 20-21 inches (didn’t even take him out of the water). Had one snap us off and missed a good hit. Missed the 2 mostly because I was dealing with little man and the 10 degrees. Water temp on my fish finder said 36. Very very few fish came by on the finder. I am guessing they are still in the open water.
