Hi Everyone.. long time reader, first time poster…
I was just curious if anyone has ever got into kokes through the ice at Strawberry. I tried last year and was never able to locate them or coerce them to bite.
any tips or is this not likely?

I have caught them yes but only by accident. Wasn’t targeting them by any means. Sure would be awesome if I could do it consistently.
Welcome to BFT and thanks for posting… Kokes can be tough on Strawberry and the gorge, but on the smaller lakes like porcupine the kokes all school up and when they swim by the fishing can be fast and furious… However, if they don’t swim by then they are long fruitless days… I don’t know if it’s the difference between the smaller variety of Kokes and the bigger ones like the berry and gorge have but they seem to behave differently… No safe ice yet at Porcupine, but have heard of a couple kokes caught out of Causey this year through the ice… Good luck in your quest… Later J
They generally hang out around and in the narrows in the winter months. That seems to be the place to fish for them, although the catch is not guaranteed. Long, long walk if you don’t have transportation to get you there.
thanks all. I usually head over by the mouth of the narrows. I’ll have to venture a bit further back…assuming we ever get good ice to safely cross the lake. sold my boat 2 summers ago and miss getting into the kokes. shore fishing just isn’t the same.
Never tried it myself but watch the video. He catches maybe 2-3 along with quite a few rainbows and cutthroats throughout the day.
Used a white paddle bug.
