Went up to the Berry on Friday night (7/25) and fished for a few hours and then fished
all morning on the 26th. We are on the Soldier Creek side of the reservoir and were fishing
near the campsites just past the boat launching ramp. We did all our fishing from shore
and ended up catching 4 (2 cutts and 2 bows), the biggest being a 20" cutthroat. All were
caught on powerbait. The following morning we woke up just before 5AM and fished
the same area with the same powerbait and ended up catching 6 (1 cutt and 5 bows). The
rainbows were very small, in the range of 12-14", so I’m guessing they were planters from
either this year or last year. We lost two fish about 10 feet from shore, they simply unhooked
themselves before we could get a hold of them. Overall, the fishing was good, considering
how fishing from shore at the Berry in July is usually tough.
Thanks for posting your report SB1093, sounds like you did good for a shore outting. Were there many folks fishing from shore there? WH2
During the night on the 25th we were the only ones fishing and the next morning there were two other groups and about three boats nearby. From my best estimate, we were catching the fish in about 25-35 feet of water. It was nice that there was a steep dropoff along the shore where we were fishing from, because that was a good indicator it was deeper there. Green powerbait seemed to work best, we tried using pink but didn’t catch anything on it.
I forgot to welcome you to the site, good to have you here. I agree fishing near deep water can really help when it comes to catching fish.
