Fished the Berry to with Fish4Fun. Wow, what a day! Arrived at 7:00am and drove to the marina, the water was capped as far as I could see with only 1" of ice.
Now the good part. Drove down to Mud Creek and started across the bay drilling holes as we walked further out. We found ice 8" thick in the shallows and any where from 4"-6" in the middle of the bay. We drilled holes in 20’ of water droped our jiggs down and continued slaying them for the next 6 hours. We caught 40 or maybe 50 apiece, the fishing was so fast it was hard to keep track. I caught 6 over the slot and F4F caught as many over the slot as well. Three 24" 4.4 pound cutts where caught today. It seemed that any ice over 4" was capped with additional softer ice but the original 4" was good clear ice.
That is awesome man! Nice fish. Thanks for the update. I also heard from the marina today that last night the thing capped over the whole lake. Shouldn’t be long before people are runnin’ machines across the pond.
Whaaaa Hooooooooo! Thanks for the report and pics. Some real beauties!!! Just have one question… What was the temp when you arrived and when you left. Just wondering if it will be too cold to take one of the kids or not… Are you going up tomorrow? If so I will see you there! Thanks[:)]
Yea, Mike!! Looks like the olde crystal tube jig did it again!! Got lots of those in several sizes gathering dust in the tackle box.
Maybe next Thursday!
What a great day on the ice- that was some serious hot fishing!! MGB already gave the details, but I wanted to add that we also had awesome weather all day. No wind, sun came out, WOW! Don’t think it gets much better than days like today.
Ice is in great shape, but still has a few questionable “grey spots”. Also, the road wasn’t plowed when we got there, so we walked 1/2 way down the road. Sure enough, they plowed it during the day!! [pirate]
Also, Jordanelle was still ice free and Echo was 75% and looked very unsafe (checked them out as we drove home).
My bad- 1-2" of light, powdery snow. Very easy walking. Only bad spot is off the ramp for 50 feet. I don’t think you could get a wheeler off it. Probably bury it right there, it’s drifted in about knee high.
