So I had this idea to go to strawberry today knowing there was a decent snowstorm on It’s way. Im definitely a fool. The drive out at 5 this morning was absolutely horrible. We finally got to strawberry at 8 when I decided I want to fish chicken creek and drive right out to the ice on a road that wasn’t plowed. So the Subaru made to the ice and we were stuck. So after fighting 2 feet of snow with a crust layer we finally got out of that mess a hour later. Parked Next to the bathrooms and began our hike through a couple feet of snow. The hike really kicked my butt to say the least. We finally started fishing at 10. Ice was 4 inches in a little over 20 feet of water which is plenty for me. We caught a couple cuts around 14" that we kept in the beginning. Then we started getting nice fish coming through. Caught tons of 18-20" cuts and I had a good 23-25" cut that broke my line right as I was pulling him through the hole. We ended up taking a nice 19" bow home too. All in all it was a great day fishing except for getting stuck, and the drive there and back.
Thanks for the report…I am glad you had some fun after you got to the ice. I hope to head up either Friday or Monday and will post a report when we get back. I was planning on Strawberry bay but not sure of the conditions.
