Strawberry 09/27 Report

I and two buddies started fishing on the south end today around 7-ish using my normal fare - pointers. Action was decent (unlike last week, when it was smoking) in ten feet or less of water until around 9:30 when two of us switched to 4" white tubes and caught a bunch in about 12 feet of water until we headed out around 11:30. The pointer continued to produce slow but steady, about a fish every 15 minutes, the jigs did better. The final damage was 63 boated, probably another 25 or so long line released. I hooked two fish today in less than 24" of water, both on a jig as we cruised the bank casting to risers - one of them rolled up out of the water to grab the jig. The bigger fish are starting to show up as we caught at least 6 above the slot, including one pretty 23.5-incher (pictured). For those interested, the bloom is starting and should be at its peak in about a week or so- water temp was 52.6 when we started and 54.7 as we left and the wind was coming up. The weeds appear to be just starting to recede a little. Overall pretty good, I believe I’ll try again Friday.

great report and picture. i’m headed to the berry on sunday with about 4 or 5 other guys with our toons and tubes. hope we do as well as you guys did.
thanks for sharing. :sunglasses:

Nice report. I am heading up on Friday as well. Maybe we will see you up there. We will be in a 14ft aluminum boat from the Marina. Not sure what area we will hit yet. I have been looking forward to October all year. Last year during this time, I caught more fish than ever before in my life.

Stop by and say hi if you see us around - we’ll be on the south end in the 19’ Alumacraft Trophy 190 - silver and black. PM if you want a some info on where you might want to fish.

Sounds like another great outing. Thanks for the report.

Went up on Sunday 24th with a couple of buddys using your same technique on jigs, after trolling pointers for a while. Trolling was slow, but the jigs were working great, boated about 25 fish in 4 hours, including the two pictured. 23’ 5 lbs and a 25" 6 lbs. I love fall at the berry.

Nice fish guys - yes, fall rules.

Mind if I ask what size and pattern pointer you were using. I guess I need to take the plunge and shell out the cash for a couple…

Size 78sp, there are a bunch of good patterns, some of which you can’t get around here. A couple you can get are the ghost minnows and rainbows, both of which work well.

Thanks Man, heading to Cabelas tonight to see if they have the shiner pattern…they tout it as a “Cabelas Exclusive” color.
