Starvy 6/6-9th

Took a long weekend with my brother and family’s, camping in rabbit so we could just pull the boats up to shore and go to bed, planed to mostly fish and night with the moon coming fuller, little more w@#* than I would have liked, first night fished rabbit, just a few eyes bows and perch, the next after noon went over to nights, little rough water, trolled cranks, caught bows, perch, smallys and eyes, was back again before dark, few bows and a lot of eyes till about midnight,

Sunday afternoon fished in rabbit, one or to eyes, tons of perch, stacked up all over, the bigger ones out on 20 + ft, before dark headed up above the bridge, trolling cranks along the cliffs, one bow and a few hits, even tried up in shallow, so just before the sun went down run back to nights, a few bows after dark a lot of eyes, 20+ fish night, left after midnight,

Eyes on flicker shad, #5 or 7 purple perch 2 to 2.5 mph, was the best but other cranks caught also, inlet to the power lines. tried to keep it in 15 ft water, a lot of 10- 15, plenty of 15-20s, no big ones this time.

Perch on small jig with a worm or about anything, all over the north side of rabbit. 5-12 inchers, bigger ones out deeper.

Bows everywhere, a clown looking crank works the best, the more clown colors on it the better, 12 to 20 inchers, plenty of the big starvy steelies.

Older brother has been there for a couple days and another buddy just got back from a 3 day trip. From what they relayed to me, Good smallie action and some nice sized ones. A few walleye nothing too big, great rainbow trout action up to 19-20” a few small perch, occasional better one is what they both reported.

Water temps 60 deg ± 5 depending on location, didnt target smallies, had some take the cranks, nothing to big,

Sounds like a good had was timed by all…or however that goes. Glad you found some fish…of all species. Would have been nice to cap it with a 30 inch walleye. Not many, but they are in there. Just too many food items for them to be desperate enough to chase down what fisherfolk throw at them. And if they feed only for 15 minutes, during any given 24 hour period, that really brings in the luck and timing factors.

And if they feed only for 15 minutes, during any given 24 hour period, that really brings in the luck and timing factors.

Ya I know there in there, nothing over 24 this trip, there seems to be plenty of perch for them to eat, there’s a lot of dink eyes to weed through to find better ones, keeps it interesting tho, Ill keep after either Starvy or UL, would prefer a pre spawn but any 30+ would be great, I’ll defiantly keep after it when ever I can.

The fall cooldown usually brings in a few of the bigguns some years. September and October can be great…for all species. And working big swim baits at night on weedy flats has produced some of those big hawgs. Haven’t done it myself but I know at least one guy who watches for the DWR trout plant (usually late September) and then throws big trout pattern jointed Rapalas or Castaic Rainbows. But that process often produces more exercise than fish. And it does keep the “seegars” away.

But it’s kinda like the guy who was selling pencils for $100 apiece. His buddy laughed at him and told him he wasn’t going to sell many at that price. To which the pencil seller replied “I don’t have to sell MANY”

The bad part for me is there like potato chips. I always want more and it dont bother me to put the time in to get more, theres been a lot of times I have felt like Im still on the boat when I crawl into bed.
