Made it up to Starvation yesterday for a morning of fishing. The bite is definately going as we landed 20 and kept a few of the smaller ones for dinner. Smallest was 14 inches and largest was 25 inches. Began at 6:30 AM and finished the day at noon. Water temperature was 55 to 58 degrees…nice to finally fish without my ice fishing gear on!
Sounds like ya nailed em chad! Did you go on your boat or is it still out of state? Did you pound any of the planter bows they put in last year ? How did the fish look, did they winter well? And the big question… are we gonna see ya on any local tournys???
Sorry…I thought I had attached a picture but I guess I missed the actual “upload attachment” step of the process…here you go. I will add more once I download them from my other camera.
Nice report Chad, thanks for posting it up. That is a nice fish too. From the picture it looks like the mud line is finally present. Unless it is just an elusion. I am going to make my way out there some time soon hopefully. I thought you would be out fishing tourneys up north with Roger and Todd. Anyways, hope to see ya on the water again this year. [fishon]
I left my boat back in NE after the McConaughy tournament as I will be back in SD in a little over a month. I fished yesterday with my neighbor out of his boat…he’s never really had much success with walleye before so he had a ball.
Fish looked great…smaller fish are golden and the larger fish are a little more white…typical for Starvation. I was pleasantly surprised to see the smaller 14 to 16 inch fish as the population for this year class looks solid.
I’m excited to start fishing some of the local ones as time allows. Todd Hall and I will be fishing the Catch a Cure tournament on Starvation on June 26th…looks like a wonderful cause.
Nice job Chad
Looks like a bottle of Gulp Alive on the dash - cheater [sly]
If the weather alows I am going to try to make it this weekend, otherwise I am booked till the end of July till I get back from Michigan.
Hey Rick…I was actually expecting to see you up there. Let me know when you are headed up and if you have room in the boat and I will tag along. If we have to wait until July…so be it.
The gulp alive was for me…tastes great on sandwiches. [:p]
I am planning to get there this Friday night and fish Saturday and Sunday morning. Would be great to if you could make it. It will just be me and my dog. Hope the weather not to bad, but sometimes it really turns on the fish.
Man Rick, we just seem to keep having scheduling conflicts. I’d love to come up this weekend and fish with you but I’ve got a walleye/wiper tournament on Willard on Saturday. I’m planning to spend some time on Starvation next week though. I still havene’t had my boat out there yet this year.
So maybe you all can help. I was at Starvation today, and I don’t believe I could buy an 'eye. I worked Saleratus with crank baits. Went up to the mudline and nothing. Accidently caught a walleye while I was fishing for smallies.
I am not by any stretch a walleye fishermen, so I will take any tips any one is willing to share. I am heading back Friday for the weekend.
I would like to catch a walleye when I actually was trying to catch one.
