I stopped in at the Starvation State Park office on Friday to talk to Park Ranger Alan. Starvation State Park is putting on an ice fishing derby on Sat. Feb. 11, 2012 at the Rabbit Gulch Campground. They are wanting to get the word out and Alan asked me to post a flyer on BFT. Assuming the ice holds, it will be a great derby with some good action on the nice rainbows and browns Starv is becoming known for. The ice in Rabbit may not be that good by then..There is a BIG amount of open water, and when I was there yesterday you could see it grow as the day went..
they should add biggest perch and walleye too. that would be sweet
some of us eye guys are looking into creating an eye turney next yr. they have 4 on open water. so it time for 1 on the hard deck… we will be working on setting it up over the summer and if next seasons ice is good. it will happen.[;)]

Sounds like that would be a fun event, run from dusk to daylight. Those Critters are a little harder to catch than slimers.
Just a question on the prize $$ - total $300 given out..
So if 200 fifteen year olds entered the tourney @ $10 each for a total of $2000..
Or if 200 adults entered @15 each for a total of $3000
Where is the $1700 or $2700 not awarded headed too?

Very low payback, should be around 70 to 80% unless it’s for a charity or improvements for the Park itself.

can you say insurance… thats the big cost of doing a turney. as well as additanal rangers on shift. but it still seams their is a litle proffit left but not to mutch.[;)]
I noticed the same thing myself Craig, not much detail on that flyer either. I called them up and found out that all the funds raised above the pay out is going to, up keep and improvements, at Starvation state park.
Uh… Theres 4 walleye tourneys on starvy a year? Catch a cure and the classic, what are the other two. Am I missing something?

Crossineyes, What 4 tourneys are there with open water. I know of the late June and Sept. They had an early spring one year that I wish they still had.
