-Short Story-
Went to Soldier Creek, got stuck, got stuck again, caught some fish, got stuck two more times, went home.
-Long Story-
Decided to check out Soldier Creek today with new member “Fishooker”. We wanted to try out his new sportman 500 on the road down to Soldier Creek (Bad Idea). We started down the road and did pretty well for a while, but soon got stuck. We dug ourselves out and continued down the road (another bad idea). After a sketchy ride down the road, we finally got to the ice and were convinced that the ice couldn’t be as bad as the road. We got out there and flew across the ice, but we were too loud, and we woke up the slush monster and he ate us. After swimming around in the slush for a while we finally got out and got the Wheeler back up the ramp and parked. We made the long nasty trek through the slush to the other side of the bay and started fishing. We caught one fish and had one bite in the first 45 minutes. We finally got into the fish and ended up with 20 between the two of us. Fishooker got two twleve inch rainbows and the rest were small 17-19 inch cutts.
Overall it was a pretty fair day. On the way back we had some fun checking out all of the big Wasatch bull elk that were down low. Good times.[;)]
How about you give us a report on Bear Lake Brody. Flycastin told me all about it and I’m waiting for those pics (you better have taken some). Later,
Matt
We also fished Soldier Creek today. Fortunately, we were on snowmobiles that did much better on the little slush that we encountered. Fishing was on the slow side, but I was happy that everyone at least caught a fish and we managed about 30 cutts. There were 8 of us fishing and it was my job to help the rest catch a few. They all have minimal experience ice fishing. Nothing huge today, with the largest going about 20 inches. We got there about 7:45 and for the first 1 1/2 hours or so the bite was pretty good, but after that it slowed way down.
we tried to go to soldier creek about 7:30 fri night on 4 wheelers got both of them stuck so after digging out we decided it wasnt a good idea so we went to the ladders did ok untill we tried to go west
one minute i was crusing along the next i was soaked from the waist down
as i sank in 18 inches of slush with 6-8 inches of snow i gunned it, bad idea slush sprayed everywere drenched me and the wheeler
had to winch it out backwards good thing we always take 2 wheelers
set up the shack to get warm and fish
the first 2 hrs were pretty good had alot of bites and caught 3 from 20 to 21 inches slowed a bit after midnight
both of us fell asleep for an hour and a half during the night when we woke up my buddy decided he should check his bait so he started reeling and there was a fish on it who knows how long it had been there
fishing died around 8 or 9 i think was pretty tired by then
was an interesting 16 hrs of fishing
