Smith and Moorehouse

Took a quick afternoon drive up to Smith and Moorehouse. Road is open all the way to and past it to the upper campground. I did not fish but watched others pull in some bows. Campgrounds are closed still but they are dry enough they could open them if the wanted. Decent water levels. You would have no problem launching.

Thanks for the update.

Probably need to get up there early while there is still water.

Thanks for the update, Lance. Not surprising it has melted up there already but is there much snow in the mountains above?

Not much. Stream coming in is not running high. About the same levels as last fall when I fished it. No good at all

Well that is sad this early in the year. Those reservoirs below better hold on to any runoff they are getting.

I forgot to add the photo…

Is that pic from the inlet side if the lake or toward the dam? Pretty cool when you click on the pic how it enlarges.

Photo from dam looking towards inlet

Yikes, worse than I thought.

So the dam is just off to the left in your pic?

Yes, that is correct.

Thanks Shane.

Went up Sunday and dangled a couple of balanced leeches under a bobber from shore. Pretty slow until about 2 PM, then things picked up until we left at four. Fish mostly ran from 12 to 15 inches. We only caught rainbows, probably last years planters. No grayling this trip.

Thanks for the report, it’s been a while since we have heard from you, good to have you back.

Man it’s great to see you on the forum again… I was afraid that Mantua thing caused you to give up all the fishing adventures… Glad your still wetting a line… Thanks for the report.. Jeff

Oh and I didn’t know there were grayling in there, I’d like to catch one of them here in Utah… Probably be disappointed after the Alaska one’s but still like to do it… Thanks J

I had some students go chase grayling there last week. Got skunked but did get a few bows. There is a decent grayling population but on the small side

Go ice fish it.

You can catch Grayling, Rainbow, Kokanee, and Cutts all in same morning.

What will Grayling take through the ice? I’ve only caught them on flies in the past… Maybe small ice flies will work huh? I’d like to do that when I could ride a snowmobile in… Is S&M in the wilderness area or is it open so you can take a snowmobile up? Guess it must be open to take vehicles up there so probably okay to snowmobile… Sounds like a plan to put on the books.. Thanks J

You can sled to it - next year. But you won’t be ice fishing it for a while
