Smelly Jellies...

Was wonderin if anyone uses/reccomends smelly jelly up at the berry? If so, is there a paticular species that takes to it more than the other? Also what seems to be working the best as far as NC, waxies,or millies? Thanks in advance for any advice you could lend me. [;)] [fishon]

I always bring about 5-10 different scents with me depending on where I go. I am a true believer in scenting everything you use. In my opinion You catch a lot more fish. For the berry I make sure I have a crawdad, corn or nightcrawler scent. If you want a great scent YUM makes an awesome crawdad scent that is red and will stain your jigs. This works awesome with white tube jigs. I spray the tails on my tubes so they white body and stained red tail. Personally I think rainbows are more attracted to scent but that’s just me.

For the different types of baits night crawlers have been my “go to” bait this year. I’ve also been using a full night crawler more this year which is producing bigger fish.

I agree with flippinstick44 about having several scents in my arsenal. I use smelly jelly in all scents as well as other brands and narrow it down to what works. I always have the best success using a scent versus not using one. Also, don’t forget about Pro-Cure

I almost always catch more fish with cut bait. I usually catch a few fish on meal worms and night crawlers.

I just started using pro cure about a month ago in trophy trout and predator. I feel like it is not as potent as others but have had some success with it. They do have a lot of wacky scents though I’ll give them that. Carp spit is so popular and I’m still puzzled by that.

:sunglasses:I’ve had success at the berry in the past with anchovie smelly jelly, but I’ve also used “banana,” yes, I said banana smelly jelly and have had even better luck with that, no kidding… Those and crawdad are the only flavors I’ve tried so far.

Oddly enough banana sells out the fastest.

Banana is my favorite, I don’t know why everybody uses crawdad-it tastes like crap [:p]. Many moons ago I stopped at DC on my way back from the berry and with my ice rod in hand and open water at DC I was tossing out a crawler with banana smelly…I slayed the perch. It was the first time I kept any perch, I’ve never had a DC day like that again. Every now and then I eat a jar of banana smelly just to remind me of the good times…

hey thanks for the info FS44… that was some awesome info there. I hadn’t realized how many peeps use the stuff.. thanks to all ya other friends out there willing to share such great war tatics..LOL. I will for sure get some of those and give’r a try. THANKS AGAIN!!! [fishon]

lookin at smelly jelly’s today and definatly seen a bunch.was wondering what you prefer, glitered or no gliter? also some said with salt and i think some didnt? at 4 bucks a piece dont wanna be buyin the store…LOL

Glitter is always a plus! A little bit of flash can never hurt. I use glitter scent more Ice fishing or if I’m just dead sticking something, but with a reaction bait I tend to use a spray scent with no glitter. Most of your soft baits these days come with salt impregnated in it but I’m sure smelly jelly comes packed with salt already in it. It is very pricey but if you get the vaseline type it does last awhile. I’m very generous when applying scent though, but thats me.

Just make sure your wife knows you were fishing. Otherwise a little glitter on your hands and face could be confused with “stripper dust”…

From experience I assume?! haha

HaHaHa. I’m going to remember to pack the towels and rubber gloves!

. . .for the strippers??

@ Got_Bait: LOL!! [sly]

TRUE STORY When I was a kid, I fished from a dock on a pond. I would put a small peace of banana on a hook and lower it down to some big Rainbows that liked to stay in the shade of the dock. These fish went nuts over the banana and the only problem was keeping the banana on the hook!

Now that smelly jelly makes banana scent the secret is out, there is not going to be a fish left in the lake if you guys start using banana scent.

I’ve a tube dropper and I’ve always felt its good to glitter when thing get slow so if scent has silver glitter included its ok with me. Why?, well because as the lure drops through the water a lot of the glitter releases from the scent. I feel the glittler fluttering down through the water colom imitates small scales of an injured bait fish.. JMHO..

I’m a WD-40 die hard, seems to work the best for me, but might have to try that Banana stuff, as crazy as it sounds.[crazy]

GUIDEMAN speaks the truth. Banana is my go-to scent. Makes a nice chapstick too if you’re in a bind. Don’t lick your lips though- it doesn’t taste a damn thing like bananas.[:/]
