I went to Weber River (I80 Exit 155) recently, and got one 11" SMB and one 12" LMB, caught them by RAPALA lure, brout trout type, size #7, original floating. I also got a 15" brownie using laser minnow from Walmart.
I was skunked in April using spinner.
I caught some myself a few weeks ago…totally took me back on my heels.
If you like to catch them you need to learn how to release them the small and large mouth bass don’t get planted in there that much they was put in there about ten years ago by the DWR but have not done well…
Those are some nice fish! 
It is your perogative if you want to keep them or not! But I think Bassroads is just trying to let you know, that the fish you caught were pretty rare and they don’t get replaced when you keep them.
How deep was the section of river were you caught those? I heard the river is pretty low right now…

I thought they came from Rackport or Echo. Good to know that they are rare, I will release them carefully next time if I have any catch.
I caught them almost on the surface of water, as I saw they jumped up to bite the rapala.
Come on Cliff, why would you get on someone for keeping a bass or 2 or 100 out of a trout river?? Is it going to be the next state record holder?? Give me a break.[frown]

And why not inform and teach people to keep our fisherys great, have you ever caught a river smallie and felt the power they have???
The only trout that make it in that part of the river is browns bows and cuts have a hard time, and bass and browns get along great and make it a better fishery…
Some people think they have to keep every fish they catch..I for one do not think that way, look at the tigers in Pineview should they be fished out with out replacements or the bigger lake trout in Fish lake or the Gorge…
I’m all for keeping a few fish to eat if they will be replaced, and I don’t think I jumped him I just told him he should think about C&R next time…
And how do you know where or when the next state record will come from…
When I go fishing I like to catch fish lots of fish that is why I go, I don’t like to fish lakes or rivers to just get one or two fish
and look at the water all day…
If some one wants to take fish home they need to look at the put and take fish for that, not deplete the lakes and rivers of all the other fish…

You can’t turn every water in utah into a personal bass fishing hole for yourself. I would have kept both those bass and given them away.
I highly doubt the DWR is going to waste money planting bass in the weber. There is not a single good thing to come of it except to please you. The signs read “Blue Ribbon TROUT Water” not blue ribbon Bassrods streams.
I could care less if they fight good in a river. They fight good anyways.
I have caught some very nice bows and a few cutts in that area. Cutts don’t do well in any stretch of the weber.
What does any of this have to do with keeping tigers from pineview or lakers from FL or FG?? It has to do with bass in the WEBER RIVER!
Don’t fish where you won’t catch a hundred 5# bass and 3-30" browns with swimbaits stuck in their mouths if you don’t like looking at the water.
Do you realize how few fish are kept from the weber river by most of the people who fish it??
Face it Cliff, the weber is a trout river not a precious bass river. Get over it.
That part of the Weber is not a Blue ribbon trout water it is listed in the community waters and bass and blue gill have been planted in there in the past that part of the stream moves slow and deep and even catfish have come from there…
And yes I think of ALL waters as MINE in the state and if I think I know of away to make them better I will say so…I don’t fish that part of the Weber not enough fish…
And yes the DWR did plant them in there and they put them even lower down stream…
I thank you and I’m sure the bass would if they could…
I personally don’t think increasing regulations (size slots) is the way to go. The procs are already confusing to the recreational anglers and the dwr seem to be a year or two behind on most of thier management stratigies. I think compounding this makes not only mangement tougher, but also enforcement.
Cliff, I think you may be mistaken on where the Bass were planted.
There was Smallies planted in the Weber River at 24th street in ogden, 17 or more years ago. and yes you are correct the Bass haven’t done very good in that stretch of the river and possibly never will. I don’t think that the DWR planted any Largemouth in the Weber. Those fish came from Pineveiw and the 21st street pond.

I think that it is important that people understand that Utah has a limited to non-existent warm water fish planting program. It seems like the only person that wasn’t offended by Bassrods comment was Fox, the one it was intended for. He said he didn’t know and would try to release them in the future. I’d say that was mission accomplished by Cliff and a classy reception by Fox. Everybody wins.

That is a pretty bold statement you made there. I think I know where you were going with that one, but you didnt make it clear enough for everyone. Now people are going to be writing for permission slips to fish Jordanelle, Deer Creek, Rockport etc etc!!! Will you have enough time to answer and approve all of them so others can fish on YOUR waters?[;)][:p] You also mention you dont fish that part of the river because there isnt enough fish, but isnt that one great thing about fishing is the challenge??? I remember when my Dad first started teaching my brother and I how to fish, we would fish where there were fewer fish, so if you did catch one you were increasing your confidence in yourself so when you did go to a nice honey hole you would have a heck of a time? Might as well stock your fish tank at home and fish from there then huh? Dont forget it is in every anglers right to harvest fish as long as it is legal!!! These bass are not doing very well on the river anyway, not by people harvesting them, but by how the river runs and such, so who cares if he took them home? Just my opinion.

I used to catch a lot of cats, carps, and sunfishes in Michigan. However, this is the first time that I hit bass. I am going to love UT!
My friend tell me the “LMB” that I caught in Weber River, is actually a HYBRID bass, or spotted bass.
I do not know how they get there.
I really apreciate Bassrods and other guys to teach me how to understand the river and fish. I definitely will carefully release any bass in Weber River, althogh I know they taste very good. 
It’s not a spotted bass, just a silly lmb. I understand what bassrods was trying to say in the first post but the Weber river will never be a bass fishery. Hooray that they are a few in there but don’t feel guilty about keeping them. Anyhow, nice fish and thanks for the report.

Im juuuust harassing you those are some real good lookin fish Congrats !!! And as mention eailier its your perogitive to keep them. I just jelious cause Ive never caught a Bass in that secion been fishing there for a few years now and never caught a Bass there. [crazy][crazy][crazy]
