Smallie report from deer creek

Hit deer creek from 4-9:30 from the buoys, north. Very slow from 4-8:30. Caught a nice 13 inch small mouth very first cast. After 2 or so hours without a fish I accidentally caught a 12 inch walleye. I have caught 2 this year up there on accident. So that made me happy. Once the boats got off, which were in the millions. The fishing got hot quickly. Caught and released 20 or so smallies in an hour with a sinking size 5 bright orange rapala. Only 3 of the 20 were decent but it was fun. Lost a huge fish no clue what it was, probably a rainbow by the way it was fighting. But i was surprised how well the orange rapala was received. I usually use a rainbow in size 5 and slaughter them. But i was out of the sinking so i improvised and used the only sinking rapala i had; orange. Heading back out tonight, but leaving much later, since there will probably be 2 million boats today instead of one million.

Haha… Nice report. Funny how sometimes odd lures or colors just seem to do the trick. Thanks for the report, and good luck today!
