I would have posted this on the Washington board but I couldn’t find it.
I will be up in Seattle for the first time mid-March. I was wondering if the fishing that time of year is worth the effort and if so, where should I go/hire??
I have heard of winter steelhead and immature coho’s. Any Washington pro’s out there with some advice??
If you have the time head to the olympic peninsula it will be well worth the trip. The Hoh, calawah, bogachiel, sol duc rivers to name a few have some of the best steelhead fishing anywhere in the U.S. More 20+ lb steelhead come from this area than anywhere. Great trip. We have fished with guide Larry Scott of westsideguide service. He will get you into the fish. We went in March and had great success. Some of the bigger natives are coming in , in Feb, but I like March better because youve got a good mix of natives and hatchery fish. My favorite place in the country! We have always stayed in Forks, its right there where all the rivers are, up the road 30-40 min is Port Angeles (going back towards seattle). Larrys website has some specific links to lodging in Forks, or you can email him he is real good about giving you tips on that kind of thing. Its a 3.5 to 4 hr drive to Forks from seattle, but well worth the trip.
