Sand Hollow shore fishing for Bass

I am going to Sand Hollow for the first time. I am 16 and just got my license so I am going to excercise that freedom by driving my 14 old brother and I 250 miles to go fishing!!! I was hoping someone would share any tips or tactics because I do not have a boat, thank you!

I’m not familiar with Sand Hollow, but I have done a lot of shore bass fishing over the last year and the biggest thing I have learned when bass fishing is to not stay in one place to long. I will generally only stay in one area for 20-30 minutes and if that’s not working try someplace else. The vast majority probably 80-90 percent of bass I have caught come within the first 5 casts to a specific spot.

welcome to the board, have fun and be safe. Thats a long road trip for a new driver- be careful so we can see those big bass pics.

hmmm, well you have a couple options down there, pick up some sweet beavers or some sorta crayfish soft plastic, I like the bigger size, 5.2 and rig them weedless with a size 4 or 5 offset hook. I also like to use a 3/8 ounce egg sinker. chuck that sucker off the rocks or dam and let it fall to the bottom and just tick it off the bottom. you can also use the same set up and try finding structure on the south east side of the place. or cast some heavy swim baits out there and bottom bounce them or drag a heavy spinner bait along the bottom.

I was there in march and waded the south shore where the atv park is. I was throwing soft plastics near trees that were in the water and got a couple nice females around 18". +1 on not staying too long in one place, the water is warm and you can wade around to find fish. Have fun Nd drive safe!

If I was 16 years old and 250 miles from home on sand hollow in the middle of the summer…

Well, let’s just say fishing probably wouldn’t be a priority.

I’m sure you’ll have a great trip either way. Drive safe and stay hydrated.

They DO have female Bass in that lake you know…
