River fishing

I am new at this… I have been fishing my whole life, but figured they way technology is going, why try and fight it? I am going to try and get out fishing on the river this week and narrowed it down to two places… the Weber River and the Blacksmith Fork. If anybody has any information on either to sway my decision it would be most helpful. Thanks!!!

I don’t have any experience with the blacksmith but I frequent the weber… There are still some pretty decent caddis hatches, as well as pmd and some good hoppers. Nymphing is pretty good in the slower pools and deeper water. Use sow bugs, San Juan worm, pheasant tails and rainbow warriors. Best times I have found are 10-2
And then again in the evenings. Also I have had some great days on the middle Provo… Also alot of people seem to hate the middle Provo but if you go at the right times and the right spots it can make for a pretty productive day! Pm me if you even want to meet up and land a few together. Good luck!

Welcome. Depends on what kind of fishing you’re into also 'spose. Fly flinger, spin caster? Cranks and such?

if you’re talking Blasksmith fork - up from Hyrum -you can hit the pool above the dam, after Hyrum City Park - don’t know how conditions are now, but likely to hold brown trout, mnt whitefish, maybe some cutties. There are certainly lots of other places to explore along the river and surrounding areas.

I couldn’t tell ya about Weber - short of some big browns, and nice cats I’ve seen out of there. Logan river also offers some good fly-fishing for Cutts, Browns, Bows.

Meanwhile the Bear River offers more muddy varieties, Cats, Walleye, Crappie and others.

Thanks for the info… sounds like you know your stuff. I think we will try and head up to the Blacksmith Fork and try out where you said. I will keep you posted on how we do. Thanks again.

If you’re fly fishing I like the hopper with a dropper up on that hole this time of year. Waders will make that area much easier to fish. Good luck. J
