Ririe Anyone?

Well, it’s been ages since anyone posted anything on here about Ririe. Is anyone doing any good? Any size? or is the secret just not out yet. I’ve been trying to get up there but with my health and doctor appointments, it’s been hard to even get the boat ready. Hoping to head up there this week. I’ve heard that it was spotty at best so I thought I’d come to the experts to find out the real truth Keep your long john’s on for a day or two more or you might get cold, lol

I’m guessing the secret isn’t out yet. I’ve heard or seen no reports from there, but we did catch some nice kokes through the ice this year. Hope you get feeling better soon.

I hit Ririe on Tuesday and got a big zero Brother in law got 1 to the boat and it shook off and that was it. Tried everything under the kitchen sink and still nothing. A good weather day and water temp was 49. Saw a total of 5 boats but didnt see anyone hook into anything. We tried around the dam to the power line and back. Saw a lot of kok’s on the finder depending on depth of water but they generally were between 20 to 35 ft from what I could tell. I hope some others up there will chime in and hopefully things will start picking up.

But, first time out and felt good. That will be it for a number of days/weeks for me. Back surgery this coming Tuesday to remove a medical device so Im gonna be laid up and just be reading how everyone is doing on here and just dreaming what if. Good luck everyone and bring in the meat

I’m glad you got out, if I where fishing Ririe right now I would be targeting the top of the water column starting with my down riggers at 5, 10, 15 and 20’ with 100’ set backs using standard pink and orange Kokanee gear, sling blades and hoochies or spinners tipped with corn or Berkly maggots. One area I have done really well this time of year is where the lake takes a 90 degree turn to the west south of the dam on your way to the power lines, along the east bank going back and fourth about 100 yds. in each direction from the apex of the turn, doing s turns from 30’ to 100’ off the bank. I have also found them in the area between the power lines and the floating dock just past the power lines.

Sitting here in my recliner watching the boob tube catching up on a few things. Surgery went well so far, dr was able to remove the spinal stimulator and all parts so we are 1 down and a couple more things to go. If he wouldnt have been able to get the stimulator and all the cords out, I wouldnt be able to have an MRI due to the interference between the leads and the MRI machine. Yep that means never ever and dr even said that if any part of the leads broke off, thats where they stay because it would be to dangerous of a surgery that no nerve dr/specialist would even attempt it do to what it could end up doing to me. So have to give a huge shout out to my dr for getting the thing out. Now just a couple weeks of sponge baths while this thing heals. Sore but, I can manage it, I think, lol. Thanks for the well wishes everyone and hope before long i can get back out on the water with something in the basket :).

Just a note. Many back procedures take 6 months to find out how successful they are. If you don’t heal as fast as your doctor promised it doesn’t mean your surgery wasn’t a success. Back surgeons forget to sometimes mention nerves can take any where from a week to 6 months to completely heal. Many people who expected immediate relief did get full recovery but everyone’s nerve system heals differently. Tens machines are the bomb!

MM DON, by saying back surgery, I was trying to keep it simple. It wasnt the back surgery your thinking of, I had a spinal stimulator taken out of my back that I had installed over 4 years ago to help with the chronic pain I was having in my left knee/leg after 3 failed knee replacements that tore up my nerves, muscles, etc. it was helping tremendously then the pain slowly came back and I had to have a pain pump installed in my back on the opposite side. Dr. was planning on taking the spinal stimulator out at the same time but when I got into the operating room, he decided the trama to my body having one taken out and one put in would be to great so we left it in. That was last August. Then about mid-November, the pain in my knee started increasing and my entire left leg from knee to my toes became totally numb and I couldnt feel much of anything. The leads from the spinal stimulator were threaded through the little holes that the nerves come out of and it was so tight that there wasnt much room for both but had to do it. Well as with all things, as I aged and grew older, LOL, now 66, the holes where the nerves and leads are at together started growing even tighter putting pressure on the nerves going to the left leg so that is why we had to take the stimulator out and why I called it back surgery. Also, we could not do an MRI with the stimulator in because it’s not compatible with an MRI. And I have to have an MRI now to determine any nerve damage or if the pressure has caused a bulged disc which means bringing in an Neurosurgeon to review it and if surgery needed to clean up the nerves what he can. So, this is the first of several more procedures to determine what is wrong or what went wrong. I had the real back surgery done in 1984 and successful at that :). So hope that helps with what I was talking about and sorry I’ve taken up space on here with this instead of the off topic site, but my original comment about this has just kept expanding so now I hope not much more will be talked about, but, if you all have more questions on it, feel free to ask. Well, apparently no one else is gonna jump up and say anything about Ririe and the Koke’s this year so at least East Idaho News did an awesome report on them just yesterday. Seems like the heat isnt stopping anyone from catching a nice bunch for eating and giving away if your in the mood. Just get down deep enough and with the right rigs. Thanks to Bill Scheiss for his reporting. Here’s the link to a great report and great information. Not sure what’s going on that no one is posting this year, but, I am sure many will get out after this story hits.

Thanks for posting that link, I love Ririe but won’t be fishing it until the end of July the beginning of August, it’s the lake that makes me feel good because I can consistently catch big numbers of Kokanee year round there.

Seems like the heat isnt stopping anyone from catching a nice bunch for eating and giving away if your in the mood. Just get down deep enough and with the right rigs. +1 on that article! I have not been out to Ririe for a few weeks. Last time I did so with my dad and two of my sons. We chased Kokes early and then went searching for perch, bass and anything else that we could get to bite. Ended up with nice 4 kokanee, 4 perch, 2 bass and 4 walleyes!!! Anxious to get out again in the next week or so!

Wow, 4 walleye, you don’t hear many reports of eyes being caught there. Were you using a different method for the eyes? Would really like to hear how you do on your next trip there.

Walley? Really? I havent heard of anyone catch just one eye let alone 4. Are ya sure they were walleye? I’d about have to see them to make sure you didnt have just a good ole fish story What were you using for the eyes? And Ill ask but if you dont wanna say its all good, where may I ask, general location, did you get into them? Good day for you.
