Registering a Tube/Toon/Canoe??

I went to the DMV the the other day to register my canoe (since I put a motor on it). I dont have a bill of sale for it so they sent me away with all kinds of paperwork which will require me to pay sales tax and apply for a title. Applying for a title for a canoe?? There has to be an easier way to register this thing, do you guys have any experience on this?

I think it is ridiculous that you have to register a canoe or a float tube just because you put an electric motor on it but laws are laws.

Take a picture of it and a bill of sale. I registered mine at the Draper office and it was very easy. If you don’t have a bill of sale they may try to get you to create a title.

Pontoon’s must be different than canoes ,went in they asked me a couple questions ,filled out the description of pontoon boat, paid 38.00 left with stickers, and registration , done. No pictures, no titles, no bill of sale. Filling out the description maybe the reason for getting a title issued, don’t know, have not received one yet.

I have a Coleman Crawdad. Made out of the same stuff as a canoe. Never had to get a title. They just assigned a vin #, had me pay $38, and sent me on the way. I didn’t have a bill of sale or anything. I just think some people at the dmv don’t realize it is just a simple litte boat. The lady that helped me was a little confused at first, but after explaining to her what the boat was, she was able to figure it out.

The guy on the DMV help line told me the same thing, but when I went in there all of the women were convinced I had to have pictures and a title and ownership verification and so on. I told her several times that we were talking about a PLASTIC CANOE. I guess I will try a different office than ogden lol.
