Ok, so the fam and I watched the Adam Eakle show on Saturday and got excited about his trip to the Pyramid and Echo lakes in the Uintas. I’d love to take the monkeys up for some beautiful high alpine fishing.
But I need some info if anyone with more experience in the area can help me out.
We have atv’s so it looks like the road to the lakes won’t be a problem. From google it looks like you can get close to the lakes on Murdock road, but have to hike a few hundred yards to actually get all the way to them. Is this true or is there a road Im not seeing that goes right to the lakes? I just don’t want to pass them and not know it.
Also, any idea of how long the road is to pyramid? Couple of miles?
Is there anywhere to stage right off 150 on Murdock Basin road?
Thanks for any tips for this Uintas rookie- I would like to get out of the heat and catch some of those pretty brookies.
Im not sure but I will be heading out thier also on the 26th for a day trip so I would love to know as well, and was wondering how the fishing is at pyramid, going to echo for sure early in the morning, if anybody wants to go we are leaving around 4am and have room for a couple more if you want to go.
Yes you will have to hike a couple hundred yards to either of these lakes. AND the roads really suck, you will be going over basically cobble stone sized rock roads for a lot of miles, with a few larger rocks mixed in just for fun.

The road is right off the Murdock Basin. When you get a little way past the paved road from the start of the Murdock Basin there is a big sign with a large map of the area. Make sure you look at that sign before you go up. The road to those two lakes is only marked by a mile marker sign. The map will tell you which mile marker sign to turn at. If you go over a deep river you have likely gone to far. So do you self a favor look at that map and write down the mile markers so you don’t forget like it did. Everyone that I know that has gone up there says its one of the worst roads in Utah.
The roads are rough, but you should be fine on wheelers. Go slow, use your map and take plenty of bug repellent.
I took my stock Jeep Grand Cherokee up there a month or so ago and made it easily. You should have no problem on ATVs. The guy I went up with said his uncle took a Ford Aerostar van up there a few years ago…I would have liked to see that. It’s definitely rough but nothing a 4x4 vehicle can’t handle. There are signs on the road that indicate where the turnoffs to the lakes are. We went to Echo but not Pyramid. It’s about 100yds from where you can park to the lake. We talked to a couple who had fished Pyramid and said they had done really well.
The road goes straight to echo. No hiking. Go get a golden!
I’m just wondering…How do u guys find out about these lakes? Are there signs and stuff I’m missing to some of them when I go up in the mirror lake area as well as the uintas in general? Or how do u figure out where they are?

Page 59 in the proc gives you the Echo name. ![]()
Get a map of the uintas and you will see there are hundreds if not thousands of lakes to try in the Uintas.
The Uintas are a very large range. Murdoch basin is closer to Kamas then mirror lake.
Try this, but remove the 3 spaces I placed there (sorry, no links):
ht tp://redrock adventure.c om/fishing/uintas/
There are links on that page to pdf files of the Uinta drainages, complete with a LOT of specific lake info and directions to get there.
Much of the stocking and size info is outdated, but it’s still great info to pour over for hours.
Once you’ve saved the drainage info to your computer, go to the DWR’s website and look up the stocking reports. They go back to 2002 and can give you a great idea as to where you’d like to go.
Hint: More fish stocked doesn’t necessarily mean quality fish.
Enjoy.
Well to get to Mirror Lake u have to go through Kamas so I’m sure I’ve seen the whole area. I’m just wondering, are lakes like that labeled on the side of the road or do u just have to flat out know where it is by looking in the proclomation, or having a map of the uintas to actually find it?
I just posted a similar question! Adam on ksl outdoors got me too. I want to head up this weekend but have no wheelers or 4x4 so I’m limited to where i can go…
Thanks! I should have researched them more but I guess I figured it’d be easier to find them. By question, are there signs along the road about these slightly more remote ones?
No. There are so many lakes in the Uintas that you wouldn’t be able to see the trees through the signs.
I am sure you have not seen the “whole area” of the Uintas. But there are many turn offs from the highway to mirror lake. Just get out a good quality road atlas and you will find lots of fun places to go.
You can also browse the area on Google Maps. It’s one of the greatest resources that today’s fishermen have.
one of my fav lake is pyramid but i think its going to be crowded for a while cause i usually dont see a soul there, some good fish too. go get em.
Who says these shows don’t affect pressure?
