I used 1" thin wall pipe for the tubing and a few T’s, 90 degree elbows and a couple of 45 degree elbows. I will add a couple more 45’s. Nothing is glued so that changing will be easy and it is just sits in the sled by gravity.
Lowe’s, the other home store. Probably one within 5 blocks of your Homies.
The fittings are the same, but the thin wall has an inside diameter that is larger. My cork and taped handles would have not fit into the thich wall tube and I would have not been able to use tubing as rod holders. As it turns out, a 45 elbow with a 4" piece of tube sitting on top if a 15" riser makes a perfect adjustable rod holder. (pic. 3)
thanks! I was having the same problem with the thicker wall stuff. Only some of my rods would slip down in there. The thin wall stuff will be just the ticket! Thanks!
Sorry Tube dude, nothing is glued. No atrial fibrilation episodes on me. I may glue the 90 degree elbows at the back corner but that would be all, I like being able to lean the uprights to get the line over the hole.
Thanks for editing my pics. I’m trying. I got the 400 size right but pasteing the img. files in line got me again.
I first added the PVC to the sled to act as a bumper as I bent a lot of bells on my reels while they traveled in the bed of the truck. It turned out that it works as a great rod holder.
I get mine at the Home Depot on 90th So. and Redwood Rd. That is not too far from your office.
Like Troll says, the inside diameter is large enough to accomodate most rod handles, but the outside diameter fits all the standard 1" fittings.
They don’t make the schedule 20 (light stuff) in sizes larger than 1", so if you have a rod that won’t fit, you have to go to 1 1/4" schedule 40…much heavier.
