Spent a week at Powell near Escalante. Striper boils in that area were very few and far between, nothing like I was hoping it would be.
Only a few jumpers here and there and only brought in about a dozen stripers for the week.
When I gave up cruising for boils, I found many smallies that wanted to play, and the evening fishing resulted in hook-ups on nearly every cast with a silver kastmaster. Most of the fish decided to leap into the air a few feet from the boat and kindly spit the hook back at my face. I had the fun of catching the fish, and didn’t have to unhook them to throw them back, I found it to be an acceptable arrangement.
Luckily the number of stripers caught exceeded the number of blown trailer tires (4) among our group for the trip.
Awesome fish and report. I have yet to hit Powell, but plan to next year. It is one of those places that you have to have at least a week to make it worth it and I have not had that week yet. Next year tho. Great post,
Shawn
