Was just thinking of taking a trip out to porcupine this evening and was wondering if anyone has been up there lately. Just trying to decide if it’s even worthwhile to go. Even if the fish aren’t biting it would be nice just to get out and go for a boat ride. It just makes it easier to accept getting skunked if you go into it without any expectations.
I was up there a week ago Friday and the water level is still high. The catching is usually good in the morning if you can get down to the fish with lead core line or downriggers. I can’t speak about an evening bite but trout usually bite in the morning and evening best. You might have a problem launching in the back in the evening because folks that go up there to camp consider the launch their personal swimming beach. We parked a few feet off to the side so people could see we were launching there but still had to beg them to move their beach towels and cloths so we could retrieve our boat[:|]. The first launch is fine as long as you can back down from the top and have a 4 wheel drive. Good luck if you go, it is a nice quite lake to fish.
Such a beautiful lake up there. Haven’t fished it for a year now. It’s either skunk city or you’re on 'em. The Pig is very tempermental, kinda like a woman.
Thanks for the info. That’s good to know about the launch. It’s always iffy if they have let a lot of water out. I was hoping with all the runoff we got this years the lake would still be up. I’ll post and let you know how it goes.
