I fished Porcupine today. We got up there about 8:15 and took our wheelers up to the dam. Roads haven’t been plowed you can drive to the parkin lot below the dam and grunt up the hill. We rode the wheelers up but no way you could get them down on the ice will all the snow. We started out in 35 ft of water right along the dam. We had one hit off the bottom a couple feet. After an hour or so we moved out to 60 ft. and my buddy got one 10" Koke. SLOW! We packed up and headed down about 2:00. Talked to 3 other groups, one had caught a 10" brown and 13" 'bow. The other 2 had nothing, they’d been up there since about 6:30. Headed up to the big BEAR in the morning.
Thanks for the update on the pig. Sounds like a wheeler or sleds would be very beneficial.
Thanks for getting out there and posting a report. The reports from Porcupine sure have been few and far between this year. When your friend caught the koke, was he marking a lot of them on the fish finder? Was anyone driving their 4x4’s, trucks to the top of the dam? WH2
Just curios but why do some people refer to porcupine as “the pig”?
PORKupine.
That, and the fishing can be just as stubborn as the mud-dwelling farm animal.
I had a few friends fish it last week and they caught their limit in an hour of Kokes. They said that the fish were right under the ice and that you could see them hit the jig.
I heard that up by the Inlet they had been slayin the Kokes just under the ice like you said. But there was nobody fishing up on the inlet on SAT that i could tell. If anyone made it up there i’d love to hear how they did. It’s really hit or miss up there on those buggers.
We were able to get our 4 Wheelers to the top of the dam and we probably could have roughed it all the way to the inlet…however you still wouldn’t be able to get them down to the ice. Snowmobiles are the way to go up there now. And NO…on saturday there was ZERO chance of getting a truck up there, a few guys tried without getting anywhere close but stuck.
YES we marked a fat school of Kokes just as we were getting set up but couldn’t get back on them, Chad managed to pull one last tag along out after the school was gone.
