Yes, we baved the snow and hit the dam arm of pineview this morning. First time to that portion of the lake for us. It snowed most of the morning, wet, wet snow. Fishing was a little slow. Plenty of small perch. A few small crappie and one nice 10 inch crappie. Surprise of the day was a smallmouth bass. Left about noon as we were wet through and cold because of the wet. An interesting day to say the least.
Nice Post…cool Pics. What depth were the crappie at? What did he hit? I can catch the perch ok there, but want to do some C and R on come crappie.

You can’t do C & R on the Pineview crappies. They come from deeper water and they cannot go back down if you release them. Their eyes and their air bladders expand from the change in pressure.
I know you put a lot of perch back down the hole but unless you “fizz” them, many of them will not make it either.
It has to be a hard life to be a deep fishie. Glad I chose to be a human. Thanks Pat,

Also, We tried that fizz thing last time out and it seemed to work great. I hope they heal up ok…you said the study proved ok resuts with this method. We won’t try it with the crappie, we’ll just keep em’.

There will still be a mortality rate on the perch you fizz and release…but a lot lower than if you just toss them on the ice or force them back down the hole to float up under the ice and die.
Making a small hole in the air bladder is also a lot less damaging than even leaving a hook in their gut…or ripping it out before releasing them like some folks do.
Again, not all of them will live but most of them do.
