Perchin' tomorrow?

Was hoping to get out a catch a few perch for a meal tomorrow. Wife doesn’t want me gone all day, so I am not looking to go too far. I am debating Deer Creek, Jordanelle, or Echo. Anyone have any input or info on recent perch catching. I would be open to PM or reply, and could meet someone out at one of these lakes if you are already planning on going. I am looking to catch filletable perch, so number would be great, but I want some worth keeping too. I know, a lot to ask.

Thanks

hit pv, as the season progresses the fish seem to get bigger, plus pv has beeen pumping out good #'s of fish and some big ones have been caught

Pineview would be the best choice, echo is really slow and hard to find the perch anyway. When you do find them on echo it’s only 1-3 fish that don’t want to bite and then you have to move again.

Pineview sounds good, but quite a drive from Orem. Plus, I wouldn’t have a clue where to start out there. I do appreciate the input though.

Bowhunter - It is a distance from Orem, but very enjoyable. I went there this morning from Lindon, next door. We chose to go the the ramp just north of the dam, where a number of families and other parties were scattered out fishing.

We had modest success in 24 - 38 feet of water, with most perch hugging the bottom but an occasional school moving through suspended between the bottom and the 20 foot mark. Every group we spoke to have about the same success, which was 4 or so perch per fisher-person over the course of the morning. Smaller jigs seemed to be better, with white, gold and yellow predominating the color schemes. A silver or brass flasher added a foot above the jig seemed to increase success. As for tipping the jigs, many were using wax worms but perch meat or eyes definitely seemed to trigger more strikes. The bite was VERY light, and often consisted of nothing more than a slight straightening of the coil in the line. IF you don’t use a flasher (which adds weight and straightens the line) then I would recommend adding a split shot a foot above the jig to accomplish the same thing. With the coil out of the line we could pick up more of the subtle hits.

We saw groups scattered all over - in the narrows above the dam, and both north and south of cemetery point.

Just to add to Rockdoc1 info, I have ICE fished the port ramp a few times this year, around the docks. The Perch are small but usually non-stop, in addition the Crappie will move through as well.

Hey man I just read your post and me and my son are going to pineview in the morning we fishied with you and pikeman last year at fish lake if you can make it I can show ya where we have had great success this season for perch

Can’t give you all the details but Rockport is the place I’d go and stay away from the crowds, think in the middle[;)]. This pic was from yesterday.

I appreciate the offer, and would like to fish with you guys. Just won’t happen tomorrow. Wife really doesn’t want me gone too long since she is sick and needs me to watch my little guy. So, I will just hit somewhere close tomorrow. Let me know how you do and maybe we can meet up in the near future.

You are killing me Wiperhunter. That is what I am hoping for, and rockport perch have not been kind to me. Maybe I will give it a shot, who knows but that is tempting.
How big are those jumbos anyways?

well good luck where ever you make it let us know how you do also. after seeing wipers haul it makes me rethink my fishing trip tomorrow but i havent caught a fish all season at the rock for me that place is broken and i dont have the tools or the know how to fix it good luck tomorrow

Interesting, look how greenish grey the perch are. I’be never caught perch that color.

The big one was 11.5" most of bigger ones are 9.5, average was 8", we released twice that many that were around 7". We drilled close to 30 holes before we found them but once we did it was game on.
