I went to Starvation Res during my lunch hour on Monday May 7. While I was eating my sandwich I went for a walk along the shoreline trying to locate some smallmouth bass when I saw a large school of perch cruising the bay. I went back to my car and got a pole rigged with a small plastic grub. Went back to where I had seen the fish and started cast’n, hook’n and grin’n. They were ravenous. As soon as the jig hit the water they swarmed it. There were very few casts that I didn’t catch a perch. In the 20 - 25 minutes that I fished, I caught at least 20 perch. I would say half of them were over 10" and all were fat and healthy. I kept and fillet 13 that ranged from 9 - 11 1/2". They were excellent eating.
I’ll take the camera next time (maybe today) [:)]and get some pics.
Nice lunch. Do you happen to know the water temperature ?

Great report, nice to know the catching is improving there at Starvation. Good to know there is someone on the site that lives/works near Starvation. Just in case no one has said it already, Welcome to the site, good to have you on the board. WH2
I fished Starvation’s Indian Bay again during lunch on Tuesday and caught about 15 perch. There didn’t seem to be as many larger perch in the area as there was the day before. Still had plenty of fun catching them. Water temperature in the bay was 55 degrees F. I measured two of the larger perch at 10". I also remembered the camera this time and took a few photos.
We’ll be catching smallmouth bass and walleye soon.

Man, nice report, hookngrinin. I’m really looking forward to hitting that lake with my tube this year. I should be able to get up there in about a month, I’m hoping…
