Pelican

Three of us fished Pelican yesterday the 9th. It was a little slow in the morning for Pelican standards. When we arrived the water temp was 61-64 degrees. Around noon the blugill and the bass turned on and we caught fish none stop until we left around 7:30 in the evening. We caught slab bluegill and small largemouth with the biggest bass going no more than 1 1/2 - 2 pounds. Most bass were a pound or less. The bluegill were the size of saucer plates and are twice the fight of a bass the same size. Bass were caught on small twist tail grubs in white and green. The bass were caught on everything we threw which included my personal favorite of top water, purple and black worms, jerk baits, crank baits etc… There was a post last week that asked the question “can Pelican be fished in a day when traveling from Salt Lake”. I do it once a year and it can be done, but I am dragging this morning. It was a lot of fun

Nice report. Imo larger bluegill are the hardest pound for pound fighters. What ever fish i’m targeting I think I have a huge one, And it turns out to be a big bluegill.

Hey Drake thanks for the heads up. I was going to make the run out there this Saturday, however the wife planned a BBQ for me to officiate over the grill sat evening, so I am going to have to stay close. I will however make it out there before this month is over. How long did it take you for the drive?

Thanks
Majja

It was 175 miles from West Valley to Pelican. It took about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

That is not to bad.

Thanks
